DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Houston's Health Department is seeking a professional Nutritionist to perform the following duties:
Develops and provides nutritional health care education and consultation to health department clients and their families. Identifies patient eligibility for social service programs; refers patient to proper social service agencyDevelop and conduct nutrition classes and programsProvide public health nutrition services for non-family group, e.g., childcare centers, schools, nursing homes, industry, etc.Compiles and maintains statistical site and patient information; may prepare reports as directedDistribute nutritional information to patients, families and the communityMaintain supply inventory and equipment maintenance WORKING CONDITIONS
The position is physically comfortable, the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition or Dietetics, or a related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
No experience is required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS Valid Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).
PREFERENCES**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
WIC Experience preferred.GENERAL INFORMATION SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED Application review and/or interview. However, the Department may administer a skill assessment evaluation.
SAFETY IMPACT POSITION Yes If yes, this position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.
Pay Grade 14
SALARY INFORMATION GRANT FUND POSITION
Grants & Special funded positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, the employee may be laid off or transferred. Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications and the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
