    Definition & Distinguishing Characteristics

    The County of Colusa is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to join our team as the Assistant Clerk-Recorder-Registrar. This key management position plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of the Clerk-Recorder-Registrar’s Office and provides direct supervision to staff across a wide range of functions-including elections, vital records, official recordings, and public records management.     This promotional opportunity is available to current regular employees within the Clerk-Recorder's Office. Only individuals currently employed in this department are eligible to apply.

    Supervision & Examples of Duties

    Receives general direction from the Department Head.

    Provides direct supervision over staff.

    Qualifications

    Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

    Experience :
    At least five years of responsible experience performing a variety Clerk, Recorder and Election support functions, including two years as a supervisor.

    Training:
    Equivalent to an associate of arts degree in business administration, public administration or a related field. Additional related work experience may be substituted for college coursework on a year for year basis.
    License or Certificate:
    Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.

    Physical Requirements:
    Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; to operate a motor vehicle and to visit various County and meeting sites; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, typewriter keyboard, or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects (up to 30 lbs) necessary to perform job functions.
    Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may be exposed to dust, scents, and fumes. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.

    Supplemental Information

    The salary range above consists of 15 steps. Steps 1-6 are annual merit steps with approximately 5% difference between each step, based on successful performance. Steps 7-15 are additional merit steps, requiring 2 years of satisfactory performance at the previous step. Steps 7-14 provide 2.5% increases, while Step 15 offers a 5% increase. The final salary offered will depend on the applicant's experience and qualifications, ranging from steps 1 to 15.

The Sacramento River meanders through the County.  Portions of five national protected areas are located within the county: Butte Sink Wildlife Refuge; Colusa National Wildlife Refuge; Delevan National Wildlife Refuge; Mendocino National Forest and; Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge. Recreational opportunities such as hiking, bird watching, camping and water sports abound. The Sacramento River and local lakes, offer world class fishing
