    What You'll Be Doing

    The Placement Services Social Worker will administer adoption assistance benefits consistent with federal and state policy. Adoption Assistance is provided to families who adopt children with special needs who are in Child Welfare Foster Care to reduce financial barriers that may prevent children from being adopted. This position provides consultation regarding Adoption Assistance Eligibility benefits with Child Welfare Staff, foster parent and Guardian Ad Lietm (GALs).

    Position Responsibilities:
    • Determination of adoption assistance eligibility and represents the agency in appeals in fair hearings related to denial of such benefits
    • Provides comprehensive case management services for Child Welfare, private agency and Interstate Compact on Adoption and Medicaid Assistance placements
    • Coordinates and facilitates adoption assistance eligibility trainings related to improved practice in adoptions
    • Facilitates and participates in recruitment staffing, initial planning, adoption placement and adoption
    • Assist eligibility staffing with the Adoption Resource Team, foster parents, GAL’s and private agencies
    • Review adoption assistance eligibility forms and records to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with policy and assures ongoing record compliance
    • Prepares and participates in audits
    • Participating in team decision making regarding placement issues for children in Wake County Foster Care
    • Review adoption assistance eligibility forms and records to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with policy

    The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

    • Bachelor's degree in Social Work or related field
    • One year of job-related experience
    • Completion of the NC Child Welfare Education Collaborative (CWEC) traineeship can be substituted for 1 year of experience
    • Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
    • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

    • Experience in adoption

    Hiring Range: 26.54 - 34.06 Commensurate with Experience

    Emergency Service Worker Statement

    In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected.
