The Position
Military Security Officers provide security for Nevada National Guard facilities, armories, installations, military equipment displays, and training sites; provide protective services to federal and State property under the control of the Nevada National Guard; enforce applicable laws, regulations, and policies; and apprehend and detain offenders.
Military Security Officer I (MSO1) provides base defense and law enforcement security to ensure a safe and secure environment for personnel at the Nevada Air National Guard (NVANG) Reno facility. Primary responsibilities include protecting federal property from threats such as sabotage, espionage, trespassing, theft, fire, accidents, or intentional damage. The MSO1 also maintains law and order, preserves public peace, and safeguards life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of the military installation. *** This recruitment may close without notice once a sufficient number of applications are received. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience in the security field which included patrolling facilities, observing and detecting intruders, and responding to emergencies; OR completion of a civilian or military law enforcement academy or certification as an industrial security specialist and one year of experience as described above. Special Notes Applicants must be eligible for a Secret security clearance by the National Agency Check of the U.S. Department of Defense. Some positions require a Top Secret security clearance by the National Agency Check of the U.S. Department of Defense at the time of appointment. Applicants must meet all legal requirements to carry firearms in the performance of official duties. Incumbents must complete the law enforcement training provided by the agency within one year of appointment. Incumbents must pass a firearms qualification test prior to appointment and maintain firearms qualification/certification standards and proficiency requirements as established by agency policy as a condition of continuing employment. Incumbents must pass an agency prescribed physical fitness test, per agency specifications, prior to appointment and maintain physical fitness requirements established by agency policy as a condition of continuing employment. The requirements of the physical fitness test will be announced at the time of recruitment. Some positions are required to obtain and maintain current certification as a law enforcement firearms instructor or rangemaster as a condition of continuing employment. Special Requirements Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this series must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. A valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Some positions require work on evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Some positions require completion of the Department of Defense (DoD) Security Engineering Course, Anti-Terrorism Level II and Conventional Physical Security Course within one year of appointment. Additional Position Criteria This position requires a valid Real ID at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. Show moreThe presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.
European explorers traveled through Nevada in the early 19th century, but it was not until 1851 that the first settlements were established. An Act of Congress created the Territory of Nevada on March 2, 1861. James W. Nye of New York was appointed Nevada's first Territorial Governor by President Abraham Lincoln later that year. On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.
Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
The Nevada Legislature has honored the State's natural resources and cultural heritage with a variety of State designations described below.
