    What You'll Be Doing

    Serve Wake County as a Librarian/Archivist
    at Olivia Raney Local History Library


    Do you have an interest in Wake County history and have experience in Archives? In this role you will engage directly with Wake County citizens at the Olivia Raney Local History Library as a Librarian/Archivist where you'll have the chance to share the magic of the library with the community. You will be essential in connecting citizens with the library's resources, fostering relationships, and building community. The Librarian/Archivist, in collaboration with the Library Manager, performs a variety of professional tasks involving the acquisitions, accession, organization and preservation of the Olivia Raney Local History archival and library materials. The top focus of the Librarian/Archivist is to ensure the accessibility of archived materials to the public, and to provide research assistance to patrons seeking genealogical and local history information.

    Key Responsibilities

    Ensure the Accessibility and Maintenance of the Collections (40%):
    • Organize and classify archival materials
    • Preserve and maintain documents, records and other materials
    • Safeguard records by creating digital copies as needed
    • Perform original cataloging of a variety of collections materials
    • Partner with the Library Manager and Collection Services on selecting new titles for the collection, as well as assessing new archival donations

    Provide Research Assistance (30%):
    • Provide local history and genealogy research assistance to patrons through in person, phone, or email
    • Plan and conduct special research projects

    Build Strong Community Through Programs and Outreach (20%):
    • Plan, organize and conduct tours and local history and genealogy workshops for the public
    • Attend meetings and civic events to promote the library and forge relationships that enhance the libraries’ programs and services
    • Attend professional development opportunities and share ideas with Library Manager
    • Plan and create displays of library materials that promote the collections and celebrate the history of Wake County

    Lead Confidently (10%):
    • Take charge in the absence of the library managers to ensure the smooth operations of the library
    • Be a support and resource for your colleagues

    Collaborate with Passion:
    • Join forces with a dedicated team to brainstorm, plan and execute programs, projects and provide excellent service
    • Contribute your unique strengths while fostering an environment of support, innovation and shared success

    The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

    • Master's degree in Librarianship or related field: MLS, MLIS, MIS, ML from an ALA accredited program or NC program
    • No specific experience required
    • Equivalent education and experience are NOT accepted
    • Please include ALL prior work experience on your application and resume.


    Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

    • Strong preference for a minimum of one year experience working in an archives
    • Experience providing local history and genealogy research assistance
    • Experience with archival management systems such as ArchivesSpace
    • Experience with transcription of handwritten materials

    Employment Type: Regular

    Work Schedule: 40 hrs per week; weekdays 9-6, except Tuesdays 11-8

    Hiring Range: 26.16 - 31.99

    Market Range: 26.16 - 37.81
