    Introduction

    The EMS Training Educator provides education and training, clinical support on federal and state guidelines as well as best practices for EMTs and paramedics. They support educational and training needs of EMTs and paramedics. This position is also responsible for maintaining documentation and requirements to facilitate accreditation and is expected to conduct research and review information regarding current and future EMS issues to keep the City on the cutting edge. In addition, this position will perform a variety of complex and highly responsible professional duties involved in planning, developing, and administering the Scottsdale Fire Department's Paramedic Program.

    Anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $45.42/hour or $94,432.00/annually.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education and Experience
    • Associate’s degree, preferably in Nursing, Emergency Medical Services, Education, Fire Science, or related field from an accredited educational institution.
    • Three years of experience as a Registered Nurse (RN), or Arizona Certified Emergency Paramedic.
    • Any equivalent combination of education and/or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.

    Licensing, Credentials and Other Requirements
    • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver’s licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona. Note: Graduated Driver’s Licenses are considered restricted.
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS) or equivalent (AREST) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) provider instructor certification within six months of hire.
    • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

    Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on division/department/section assignment.

    Essential Functions

    Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:
    • Produces written documents, such as policies, procedures, proposals, activity reports, evaluations, training documents, and other documents.
    • Provides leadership for long-term and short-term course planning, program development, and administers the Scottsdale Fire Department Paramedic Training Program and may assist in instructing at regional Paramedic Training Programs.
    • Provides leadership for long-term and short-term course planning, program development, and administers the Scottsdale Fire Department Continuing Education programs to provide enough training hours for EMT and Paramedic certification/recertification.
    • Manages initial and continuing education programs and integrates these educational programs with the Scottsdale Fire Department Continuous Quality Improvement Program.
    • Performs identification, collection, analysis, implementation, and reassessment of trends/data and integrates this into training related to patient care and guideline changes.
    • Communicates with the public, Scottsdale Fire Department employees, other city departments, management, medical control authorities and interacts with product or service vendors to identify trending equipment.
    • Communicates with local, regional, and state Medical Direction authorities, hospitals, and other agencies to develop and/or revise implemented EMS procedures and policies, address complex medical issues and patient care delivery situations, and research trends and conducts effective presentations and training in classroom and other settings.
    • Manages initial certification and recertification of Certified Emergency Paramedic certification (CEP)/ Registered Nurse License (RN), Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or equivalent (AREST).
