The Library Makerspace Specialist plays a vital role in promoting creativity, innovation, and hands-on learning within the library. They are responsible for curating, managing, and facilitating activities within the library's makerspace, a dedicated area equipped with various tools, equipment, and resources to support hands-on learning and creation.
Key Responsibilities - Provides guidance and support to library customers using the makerspace, fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all users; offers technical assistance, troubleshooting, and basic instruction to users engaging in the makerspace and recording studio.
- Acquires knowledge about the operation and maintenance of each piece of equipment; assists in setting up, calibrating, and maintaining makerspace equipment, including 3D printers, laser engravers, large-format printers, sewing machines, embroidery machines, and studio A/V equipment.
- Plans and conducts a variety of programs and activities for different age age groups and skill levels, encouraging creativity and learning; integrates STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) principles into makerspace activities for a comprehensive learning experience.
- Shares the responsibility of being the person in charge (PIC) of the building through a rotating schedule that includes covering occasional evening and weekend shifts (Full-Time Specialists).
Qualifications Experience: Must possess a foundational knowledge and abilities in multiple making areas, along with an eagerness to expand expertise. These areas include design software, laser engraving, 3D design and fabrication, electronics, robotics, sewing and textiles, and A/V equipment. Skilled in creative problem-solving and adaptable in a rapidly changing environment. Ready to address technical software and hardware issues as they arise.
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A b achelor’s degree in any STEAM discipline, Entrepreneurship, Library Science, or a relevant field is preferred.

Environmental or Physical Demands: This position requires maneuvering equipment and materials which requires lifting of at least 60 pounds on a regular basis, bending, twisting, and reaching. Equipment in the work area may also require exposure to chemicals and fumes.
