    Introduction

    Performs semi-skilled heavy equipment operation work in the following discipline: pavement maintenance in the city right of way.
    Anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $27.88/hour or $57,990.40/annually.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education and Experience:
    • A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent.

    All Street Operations Assignments:
    • Preferred: One year of either asphalt pavement maintenance, signs, or markings or related experience.

    Licensing, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
    • Must possess a valid, unrestricted Commercial Driver License, Class is dependent on assignment and will be subject to unannounced alcohol and drug testing as required by law.
    • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work..

    Street Operations - Asphalt & Maintenance Assignment:
    • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no air brake restriction within six months of hire or promotion. Will be subject to unannounced alcohol and drug testing as required by law.
    • Preferred:
      • American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) Traffic Control Technician Certification or International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Technician Certification.

    Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.

    Essential Functions

    Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:

    All Assignments:
    • Works and communicates effectively with city staff and citizens.
    • Follows department and city policies and procedures, safety procedures and practices, and traffic control methods.

    Street Operations - Asphalt & Maintenance Assignment:
    • Monitors City streets for deficiencies in: paved driving, walking, and drainage surfaces.
    • Sets up safe and effective traffic control and repair deficiencies in pavement including but not limited to: potholes, trench failures, utility cuts, etc.
    • Responds to emergency calls to secure: road hazards, debris spills, sidewalk tripping hazards, and drainage structure failures.
    • Completes work orders, routes, time sheets, and safety checklists in a complete and readable manner.
    • Operates various equipment and a motor vehicle such as, a P-B Patching Unit and Truck, walk behind roller, hydraulic breakers, tampers, air compressors, flat beds, lift gate, pickup trucks, front end loader, bobcat, and hand tools.

    • Perform manual work that requires: standing and walking/moving continuous periods of time, digging, lifting, bending and standing, climbing elevations.
    • Access paved, gravel, or turf park areas to perform general grounds maintenance functions.
    • May operate small and medium hand-held equipment weighing up to 50 pounds such as: blowers, weed eaters, trimmers, edgers, chain saws, mowers, and power washers.
    • May operate heavy equipment including: tractor, back hoe, front loader, trencher, dump truck, walk behind roller, hydraulic breakers, and bobcat.
    • Use manual tools such as rakes and shovels.
    • Lift and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
    • Exposure to dirt, dust, pollen, inclement weather, chemicals, temperature extremes, traffic hazards, and unpleasant odors.
    • Visual and muscular dexterity to operate: equipment, hand tools, computer, two-way radio, a small tractor, and a city truck or EZ-GO.
    • Travel to/from meetings and various locations.
    Work varied schedule according to season including: weekends, evenings, and overtime.
