THE OPPORTUNITY The County of Orange has an excellent opportunity for a Shop Planner who will be responsible for the organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating of maintenance work using a Facility Management (FM) or Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). This position is also responsible to engage in procurement processes, scheduling contracted vendors, and maintaining accurate records of labor and materials expended including the planning, scheduling and dispatching of work orders. Additionally, the Shop Planner supervises all shop activities in the absence of the designated Supervisor.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES In addition to the education and experience requirement, the incumbent must possess the desirable qualifications and core competencies. The ideal candidate is motivated, assertive, problem-solving, self-starting individual with responsible and varied trade shop experience. Hands on experience using a Facilities Management (FM) or Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and completion of a maintenance scheduling course or qualified curriculum is preferred.

- General characteristics and trade practices used in electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, elevator and escalator equipment, carpentry, locksmithand metal trades work.
- Characteristics of building infrastructure and trade practices used in their maintenance.
- Cal-OSHA building safety rules and regulations.
- Current building equipment and materials by name, manufacture and source/supplier.
- Current maintenance and construction methods, tools and material used in the building trades.
- General knowledge and understanding of the acquisition process and coordination of established contract services.
COMMUNICATION SKILLSProven ability to:- Read and interpret building specifications and blueprints
- Develop and communicate goals in support of the business by maintaining and strengthening partnerships with others inside or outside the organization who can provide information, assistance, and support.
- Establish and maintain effective working relations with representatives of other divisions, agencies or contractors and general public.
- Give informative presentations for meeting.
- Communicate effectively with shop personnel, other departmental representatives, materials manufacturers and vendors.
- Collaborate and communicate well with procurement personnel and other departments.

Education and ExperienceConsiderable experience and training that would have developed the knowledge and abilities listed above.
License Required The successful candidate must possess, obtain, and maintain a v alid California Driver's License, Class C or higher, by date of appointment.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony or be on any form of probation and must pass an extensive background investigation to the satisfaction of the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner.
The Background process includes completion of a Personal History Form, interview with a background investigator, fingerprinting and may include a polygraph test. Some of the areas considered in the background screening include prior convictions, traffic violations, drug use and credit problems, employment history, professional references and education verification (i.e. degree, license, or official transcripts).

Physical Requirements: Sit at a desk to perform office and computer work; stooping, walking, standing, bending, or twisting, kneeling, squatting, climb ladders, or crawling as required; occasionally working with arms above shoulder; draw plans and create work requisitions; carry up to 25 pounds and lift up to 50 pounds; light pushing or pulling of construction materials; vision sufficient to read fine print, blueprints, identify construction materials, and read a computer screen.
Environmental Conditions: Daily routing public and co-worker interaction when coordinating assignments and location maintenance jobs; ability to communicate with shop personnel, other departmental representatives, and materials manufacturers verbally, in writing, and utilizing the telephone.
RECRUITMENT PROCESS The Orange County Sheriff's Human Resources screens all applications to identify the most qualified candidates for the position based on the skills required to meet the needs of the Department. After the initial screening, the qualified candidates will be referred to the next step and notified of all further procedures applicable to their status in the competition. Structured Oral Interview | SOI (Weighted 100%): Candidates who have met the desirable qualifications as outlined within the job bulletin will be invited to participate in a structured oral interview (SOI). These candidates will be interviewed and rated by a panel of job knowledge experts. Each candidate's rating will be based on responses to a series of structured questions designed to elicit the candidate's qualifications for the job. Only the most successful candidates will be placed on an eligible list.
Based on the Department's needs, the selection procedures listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedure. ELIGIBLE LISTOnce the assessment has been completed, the Sheriff Human Resources will establish an eligible list of qualified candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies within the Sheriff's Department only.
