What You'll Be DoingAs the Voter Services Manager for the Wake County Board of Elections, you will lead the largest voter services operation in North Carolina. In this critical role, you will oversee voter registration, list maintenance and absentee-by-mail coordination, ensuring that every eligible voter has the opportunity to register, stay informed and cast their ballot. You will develop and implement strategic workflows, tools and procedures to maintain accurate voter records, support voter photo ID issuance and uphold compliance with state and federal election laws. Combining strategic planning, innovation and a strong commitment to public service, you will oversee the coordination of voter services across multiple channels, including email, phone and in-person interactions. You will ensure consistent, high-quality customer support for voters while maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the voter database. This role is key in delivering a seamless, accessible and secure voting experience for all Wake County residents. This position is responsible for delivering professional, administrative and customer support to ensure free, fair and well-managed election services for Wake County residents; providing daily supervision and leadership to the Voter Registration and Absentee Team; overseeing staff performance and operational workflows; identifying and implementing solutions to challenges affecting the timely execution of key tasks as well as applying strategic leadership, coaching and cross-functional coordination to guide projects forward.
What You Will be Doing as a Board of Elections Voter Services Manager: - Supervise daily operations for the Voter Registration and Absentee Team to ensure timely and accurate processing with no backlog
- Manage clerical staff performance, including workload distribution, productivity tracking and realignment of tasks as needed
- Provide oversight of voter registration database maintenance to ensure data completeness and accuracy
- Oversee absentee ballot processes to include processing absentee ballot requests, packaging absentee ballot envelopes to be mailed and sending electronic ballot packages to Military and Overseas voters
- Supervise the processing of voter registration applications, cancellations and public information requests
- Ensure coordinated mailroom functions, including sorting, scanning and mail distribution
- Provide ongoing management of legal compliance by monitoring changes in federal and state election laws, updating procedures and documents accordingly
- Partner with Early Voting, IT, Staffing, Training, Logistics, Mapping and Polling Place teams to lead and streamline joint projects
- Monitor employee leave and process timesheets for permanent and temporary staff
- Oversee training programs for new and existing staff, with a focus on statutory updates and process changes
- Responsible for setting individual and team performance goals and conducting annual evaluations for a team of 10, including 2 Service Coordinators and 8 Voter Registration Specialists
- Assist with election and post-election duties, including voter history, provisional ballots and preparation for Board Meetings
About Our TeamThe Wake County Board of Elections is responsible for conducting all elections held in Wake County. The Board locally administers state and federal election laws. Principal functions include establishing election precincts and voting sites; appointing and training Precinct Officials; preparing and distributing ballots and voting equipment; canvassing and certifying the ballots cast in elections and investigating any voting irregularities. It maintains voter registration and participation records and provides public information on voters and elections. This position is in-person and will work at the Board of Elections Operations Center. We support a million Wake County residents and ensure elections are accessible, transparent and fair.
The Basics (Required Education and Experience) - Bachelor's degree
- Five years of experience in election administration, including at least two years of supervisory experience
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted
