part-time positions available , which will report to the Central Library.
This position works days, nights, and weekends based on the needs of the library. The eligibility list created from this recruitment may be used to fill future Library Clerk II vacancies as they occur in the Central Library, Balboa, Corona del Mar, and Mariners branches. Selection Components: - Application Evaluation: Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis with the first review of applications on July 22 , 2025, OR until 150 applications are received, whichever occurs first. Library Clerk II Job Description
Experience & Education and License/CertificateA combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Three years of clerical experience. Library experience is highly desirable.
Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by specialized clerical courses.
License/Certificate : Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.
In addition to the above requirements,
when assigned to the Deliveries :
• Provide delivery services for department; deliver mail, supplies, parts, and materials to libraries, outside agencies, and other department facilities;
• Receive and store materials, parts and supplies;
• Safely utilize city vehicle to drive to delivery locations;
When assigned to the Circulation Desk :
• Check out library materials to customers; check in and prepare materials for return to the circulating collection; register new customers; collect fines for overdue books and fees for lost or damaged books, input data into computer system;
• Respond to customers in person or on telephone regarding general information, library materials or services, referring to appropriate library staff when necessary;
• Assume duties of a Library Clerk I as required;
• Maintain hold shelf and search the shelves for lost and missing materials;
• Provide general clerical support including preparation and maintenance of lists, reports and other documents;
• Participate in the processing and maintenance of the collection including periodicals;
• Prepare bank deposits and disbursements. Operate and troubleshoot office equipment;
• May open and close the library as assigned;
When assigned to Facilities Monitoring :
•Facilitate rentals and usage of City facilities; open and close facilities for rentals, including setting and cleaning up; prepare facilities for group and rental activities;
•Issue, monitor, and track equipment during rentals and collect and store equipment after use; and
•Assist with coordinating facility arrangements with instructors, rental groups, and maintenance personnel.
