    The Position

    Positions in this series supervise professional engineering associates, technical engineering staff, and/or engineering students; direct activities of assigned staff, organize personnel, equipment and materials, and delegate assignments; evaluate the performance of employees according to established policies and work performance standards; ensure accurate and timely completion of work assignments; and provide guidance and training.

    Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.

    This position is located in the Asphalt Laboratory within the Material's Division in Carson City. Incumbent will supervise Asphalt Lab, a Supervisor 1, and three testing technicians performing tests on liquid asphalts and emulsions from construction and maintenance contracts in northern Nevada. Responsibilities also include review specification and respond to requests from Resident Engineers and other divisions, keeping up to date on emerging technologies and recommend testing or specification changes to remain current with industry, interacting with suppliers and industry representatives through regional collaboration groups and on contract-specific issues. Duties also include updating and maintaining the field viscosity certification program for NDOT, participating in AASHTO resource proficiency testing to ensure specification compliance of equipment and procedures for lab accreditation, maintaining testing equipment, and keeping necessary supplies available.

    To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field and two years of professional engineering experience; OR certified as an Engineering Intern and two years of professional engineering experience; OR two years of experience comparable to the Staff I, Associate Engineer or the Supervisor I, Associate Engineer level. Special Notes Employees in this class who are not licensed professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities. Special Requirements This position requires a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.
