    The duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Oversees the design phase of facility remodel/retrofit, tenant improvement, and structure demolition, and rebuilding of existing and proposed buildings. This includes, but not limited to, coordinating with clients, conducting field inspections and taking measurements, preparing preliminary studies, sketches, schematic drawings and architectural working drawings using Autodesk Revit, ensuring City, State, and Federal code and regulation compliance, preparing presentations to outside agencies, and obtaining necessary permits.
    • Prepares cost estimates, schedules and architectural specifications, collaborating with drafting, mechanical, electrical, structural and other design engineers, advising construction crew on design matters, monitoring job progress, conducting quality assurance audits, and other related duties.
    • Coordinates civil, structural, plumbing/mechanical, and electrical engineers, and drafting in the preparation of construction documents. Prepares, reviews, and revises Specifications and Requests for Proposals. Reviews and evaluates bids and proposals. Makes recommendations of awards and administers material and service contracts.
    • Prepares weekly and monthly progress reports for project management.
    • Prepares studies for making recommendations for the most efficient use of energy in proposed or existing structures, according to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) principles.
    • Field visits, travel, and overtime may be required.
    • Performs other related duties.


    Skills, Knowledge, and Ability:
    Candidates will be evaluated for the following work-related skills, knowledge,
    abilities, and other qualifications by interview or other means, as specified:
    • Knowledge of the theory and practice of architecture, and the procedures in project management and construction methods.
    • Knowledge of local building practices and code requirements.
    • Knowledge of, and ability to apply, safety principles and practices.
    • Knowledge of contract administration and related functions.
    • Ability to provide designs, details, and drawings of the architectural features of all types of municipal buildings, structures, and installations.
    • Ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and tactfully, both orally and in writing.
    A valid California Driver’s License is required and must be maintained during
    the course of employment.

    The minimum requirements for this position are: Licensed by the State of
    California Architects Board; or have passed any two (2) of the six (6) divisions
    of the Architect Registration Examination (ARE) leading to a California
    Architect’s License; or successful completion of the National Council of
    Architectural Registration (NCARB) equivalency examination; or have passed
    two (2) divisions of any other license examination for architects recognized by
    the State of California as set forth in Title 16, Division 2, Article 3 of the
    California Code of Regulations.
