    Job Summary:

    This position plays a key role in communicating university policies and procedures to students, faculty, and staff. It is responsible for accurately posting cashiering transactions to student accounts and the general ledger, ensuring financial accuracy. The role also involves providing responsive and professional customer service to support the university community.

    Responsibilities

    Provide front-line customer service at the cashiering window, by phone, and through email for all student account inquiries and related cashiering functions. Responsibilities include:
    • Explaining student account issues clearly and accurately while applying departmental policies and procedures to resolve concerns.
    • Accepting student payments and departmental deposits in compliance with established guidelines.
    • Utilizing the Student Finance system to release holds, research and analyze account discrepancies, and respond to inquiries regarding student accounts.
    • Ensuring a high level of service while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism in all interactions.

    Perform a variety of financial and administrative tasks, including:
    • Posting dishonored payments and chargebacks.
    • Processing scholarship payments and maintaining mail log receipts.
    • Handling accounts receivable vendor payments and maintaining the departmental key log.
    • Serving as backup for payroll warrant distribution.
    • Preparing student and departmental refunds and processing incoming wire transfers and credit card payments.

    • Verify and reconcile daily financial transactions, including confirming the accuracy of the daily bank deposit, receipting departmental deposits, and performing daily cash drawer reconciliation.

    • Provide support for special assignments as needed and serve as a backup for other team members to ensure continuity of operations.
    • Other classification related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience

    Equivalent to three years of progressively responsible financial record-keeping experience which has provided the above knowledge and abilities.
    Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.

    Required Knowledge, skills, and Abilities

    Thorough knowledge of financial record-keeping, mathematical and general office methods, procedures, and practices.

    In addition to the Accounting Technician I abilities, must be able to apply accounting procedures and practices to the analysis of basic accounting problems; analyze and interpret accounting data; apply problem solving techniques in finding solutions to basic accounting problems; understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; use current computer word processing and spreadsheet software programs, web browsers, query tools, integrated financial systems and/or other types of records management systems, such as student accounting, cashiering and student financial aid; work independently; and make sound decisions and recommendations regarding accounting activities.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Two to three years previous general accounting or business experience
    Working knowledge of accounting concepts such as debits, credits, accruals, refunds, payment terms and discounts An understanding of general accounting concepts
    Analyze and resolve business or accounting problems
    Skilled in organizing work and setting priorities
    Demonstrated ability to integrate into a large team environment
    A courteous, professional demeanor and excellent customer service skills
    Effective oral and written communication skills
    Microsoft Windows Office experience including Word, Excel, and Outlook email software
    Peoplesoft Enterprise Systems
    Cashnet/Transact Payments
    Previous experience in higher education
    High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent

    Compensation and Benefits:

    Anticipated Hiring Range: minimum $4,000 - maximum $4,300 monthly.

    Classification Salary Range: minimum $3,872 - maximum $6,428 monthly.

    The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.

    The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year.     Position Information:

    Full-time/Non-Exempt/Probationary

    Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 am - 5:00 pm), some evenings/weekends.

    Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends.

    Background Check

    Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
