Position DescriptionThe City of Tacoma's Public Works Department is seeking to hire an intern to provide support to the City of Tacoma's Construction and Asset Management groups in the Engineering Division. Under staff supervision, the position will be focusing on technical aspects of construction management, data entry and analysis of data related to transportation programs and infrastructure, and the use of various applications to assist with the publication of data. The position is structured for college or graduate level students looking to apply their studies while working with engineering and construction management professionals.

Work will take place in the office and the field, including active construction sites. Typical duties include field data collection, technical analysis, calculations, forecasting, and preparation of draft reports/presentations. The expected duration of this internship is at least 12 weeks, up to 40 hours per week.
The Construction & Asset Management intern will be given responsibility and must be self-motivated and well-organized. Interns must have the ability to thoughtfully engage with diverse communities and demonstrate excellent follow-through and a commitment to collaboration.

Internship positions with the City of Tacoma work under close supervision and typically provide administrative and technical support to City Departments. This is trainee-level work of limited duration in which an incumbent provides technical assistance in the administration of a specific project or program.

Minimum Experience* 1 year of post-high school training
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements Depending on assignment, some positions may require a valid Washington State Driver's License
*Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:This position requires being able to work both outdoors and in an office environment. Outdoor conditions will provide a variety of weather conditions. In office environments will include working on computers and communicating via email, chats, and phone. The intern may be asked to lift or move equipment or boxes not exceeding 50lbs.
