open to the public and is being held to establish an eligible list to fill current and future Sheriff's Technician vacancies within the Sheriff-Coroner Department. This recruitment may also be used to fill position in similar and/or lower level classifications.

THE DIVISIONCourt Operations is a division under Professional Services Command of the Sheriff's Department. The Court Operations Division includes bailiff and detention operations, warrant services and civil process services. The Court Operations Division has an authorized strength of 384 employees, 328 sworn and special officer positions and 56 professional staff. The majority of Court Operations employees are assigned to Court Services. Assignments in this activity include bailiff duties, custody movement and public safety, weapons screening, and building security.

THE OPPORTUNITY Examine legal papers to verify authority, procedure and time limitations; plan most expeditious route to serve assigned papers; make positive identification of person served, time served and location of service; give general information to public relating to legal procedures and laws governing the process; prepare reports on services achieved and attempted; may appear in court to verify service and identify person served; operate county vehicle; works as a liaison between the Sheriff's Civil Clerks and the public processing legal paperwork.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Experience:

License Required:
Possession of a valid California Driver's License, Class C or higher, by date of appointment.
Skills and Abilities to: - Perform basic arithmetic calculations such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing to determine fees for service.
- Read road maps accurately and become familiar with service area. Speak, read and write English fluently.
- Learn court procedures; explain and apply laws, rules and procedures pertaining to civil and criminal process service.
- Prepare clear, accurate, concise, legible, and grammatically correct reports in English; keep logs and complete forms accurately.
- Meet and deal courteously with public under stressful conditions; maintain good public relations while effecting service.
- Verbally communicate effectively, in English, with people from various educational and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Exercise tact, self-restraint, good judgment, and strategy in dealing with a wide variety of people.
- Speak Spanish (may be required for some assignments.)
- Lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Use department equipment including telephone, computer terminals, radio, and weapons screening equipment.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.
Applicant must have no felony convictions or be on any form of probation and must pass an extensive background investigation to the satisfaction of the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner Department.
Background screening includes completing of a Personal History Form, interview with a background investigator, fingerprinting and may include a polygraph test. Some of the areas considered in the background screening include prior convictions, traffic violations, drug use and credit problems, employment history, professional references, and education verification (i.e., degree, license, or official transcripts). Foreign degrees require an evaluation of U.S. equivalency by an agency that is a member of the National Association of Credentials Evaluation Services (N.A.C.E.S.).

The work environment in any assignment may involve significant stress and pressure engendered by the workload and performance expectations. Incumbents in security assignments may be exposed to minimal radiation via weapons screening equipment but exposure is monitored at all times.
