What You'll Be DoingThe Wake County Child Support Office partners with custodial parents, caretakers, non-custodial parents, and other state agencies to secure financial and medical support for families and children. Through the location of parents; establishment of paternity and support obligations; and the enforcement and modification of support obligations, the Program promotes family self-sufficiency and child well-being. The Wake County Child Support Office strives to accomplish the goal of economic self-sufficiency for families by consistently collecting millions of dollars for the benefit of the children we serve.
The Wake County Child Support Office is seeking two (2) Child Support Services Agents who will be instrumental in providing comprehensive case management and support services to families. In this pivotal role, you’ll ensure that children receive the financial and medical support they deserve, while collaborating with parents, legal representatives, and state agencies.
Essential Job Functions:
- Conduct sensitive and confidential investigative work in support of the Child Support program.
- Interview and negotiate with program participants to resolve issues and establish appropriate support agreements.
- Research and verify income, assets, and expenses to determine appropriate child support orders.
- Prepare and present cases in court, including testifying as a witness when required.
- Process cases to establish, modify, or enforce child support orders.
- Resolve account discrepancies and ensure accuracy of case records.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of, and compliance with, federal, state laws, rules, regulations, and program policies governing child support.

The Basics (Required Education and Experience) - Bachelor's degree
- Two years of job-related experience
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience) - Child Support Program case management experience
- Corrections, Probation/Parole, Investigative experience
- Legal case management experience, or Debt Collections case management experience
- Experience with Automated Collections and Tracking System (ACTS), NCFast, Online Verification System (OLV), and Microsoft Office Software
How Will We Know You're 'The One'? - Knowledge of Child Support Program, related legal procedures, judicial operations, program policy, laws and procedures
- Considerable knowledge of interview and investigative techniques and procedures
- Ability to analyze and evaluate case variables for the recommendation of appropriate actions as dictated by policy, laws, and rules governing the Child Support Program
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program participants, partner Agencies, including but not limited to, the offices of the Clerk of Court, Magistrates, District Attorney, Sheriff, other court officials, and private attorneys
- Ability to learn and utilize the Automated Collections and Tracking System (ACTS) to carrying out the duties of the position within required time frames
- Experience providing professional customer focused assistance to emotional clientele
- Ability to multi-task and produce quality work, paying close attention to detail
- Highly organized with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely complicated and/or sensitive information
