Full-time position available with the Parks & Recreation Department, Community Services Division located at Southeast Community Center, 4201 East 63rd Street
Salary Range: $5,173-$7,759/month
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities
- Supervises and participates in the conducting of training programs for leaders, directors and volunteer assistants.
- Discusses methods, materials, equipment, public recreation philosophy and standard operating procedures.
- Conducts demonstration teaching.
- Assists in the conducting of cultural games, sports, outdoor recreation, natural science, golden age or other recreation programs.
- Participates in departmental planning, research and in-service training activities.
- Introduces new recreation program activities, materials and equipment to staff members and other interested community groups, participants and individuals.
- Studies neighborhood and particular community needs in an assigned area of specialization or program field.
- Investigates and acts upon requests, suggestions and complaints concerning specific recreation activities.
- Supervises and assists in the development, promotion, coordination and administration of assigned activities of the overall recreation program.
- Arranges league schedules.
- Meets with team sponsors.
- Maintains individual and team records.
- Arranges for championship and elimination games.
- Keeps local newspapers and radio and television stations informed of game results and other news of general community interest.
- Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
REQUIRES bachelor's degree in Recreation Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, Physical Education, Exercise Sports Science, Sports Management, Fine Arts, or Wildlife Education and five (5) years of experience overseeing or coordinating community recreational programs and/or facilities; OR High school graduation and nine (9) years of experience in recreation management, community programming, sports management, wildlife management, art programming, or therapeutic recreation including four (4) years of managing/overseeing recreational programs. Must pass a preemployment drug screen as prescribed by the City.

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
