GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

Under the direction of the Assistant Manager for Maintenance & Operations and the Lead Ranger, this position performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work including the daily operation and maintenance of park facilities, grounds, equipment, and visitor services for Lake Mineral Wells State Park. Responsible for using all types of equipment such as trucks, tractors, mowers, and power tools. Performs daily maintenance to the 11-mile multi-use trails and the 20-mile limestone surface rails-to-trails trailway. Issues permits, collects revenue, visitor registration, provides information to the general public and park guests. Assists with resource management tasks and interpretation of the parks natural resources. Helps with enforcing park rules and regulations. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.


Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education :

Graduation from High School or GED.

Experience :

Three years of facility, equipment or grounds maintenance experience.

Licensure :

Must possess a valid state driver's license.

ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS :

Experience :

Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience with a maximum substitution of two years.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

Experience :

Experience in customer service and working with the public.

3 years of experience in the maintenance, inspections, and repairs of small engines and heavy equipment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance;

Knowledge of building and facility repair techniques such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical or mechanical;

Knowledge of general maintenance techniques;

Knowledge of general custodial duties;

Knowledge of general work site safety;

Knowledge of basic mathematics;

Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook;

Skill in effective verbal and written communication;

Skill in using various hand and power tools and mechanical equipment;

Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner;

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts;

WORKING CONDITIONS :

Required to work in a public park with overnight camping and day use.

Required to work 40 hours per week, includes various schedules with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

Required to respond to emergencies and on-call situations.

Required to work overtime, as necessary.

Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

May be required to operate a state vehicle.

Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays.

Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.

Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
