Job Summary
We have a great Undergraduate internship opportunity at the Library!
As an Undergraduate Intern, you will be under mentorship of professional staff and will undertake one or more assigned activities and/or projects of fixed duration requiring an intermediate degree of knowledge and skill within a defined area of administrative or technical specialty. Provide customer service to patrons and maintain the library's materials and collection. Assists with library programs and other duties as assigned.
Must be available to work a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends.
Essential Job Functions
Facilitates the circulation of library materials by checking out library materials with the use of integrated automated system; issuing new cards; providing friendly customer service such as answering questions in person and by phone and solving problems; retrieving periodicals from the mailroom and making them available for customer use; processing inter-library loan requests; and renewing items in person and by phone.
Provides shelf maintenance by shelving books in appropriate order; maintaining assigned shelving areas neat and in proper order; stocking book displays; performing periodic shelf reading to maintain order; and shelving books that have been used by customers.
Checks in library materials by retrieving returned materials from book drops; checking materials in using integrated automated system; sorting materials by format and call number; and recording appropriate information for holds and overdue materials.
Minimum Qualifications- Must have a High School Diploma or GED and currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a Bachelor’s degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- No experience required.
- Valid Texas Class C Driver's License
For city employees who are regular part time (10-19 hours per week) or seasonal hired placed on City payroll, the following benefits are provided:- PARS - Public Agency Retirement System: the employee contributes 6.2% each paycheck to this retirement system and the city provides 1.3%. The employee does not pay into Social Security. All of the employees contributions may be withdrawn upon separating service from the city. The City's contributions will not be paid unless the employee retires under the system.
- Part time or seasonal employees are not eligible for any paid leave or other benefits.
- Part time or seasonal employees are limited to working only 1,000 hours per 12-month period, unless the seasonal is project based for a specific period of time which is typically less than 12-months.
