Job Summary/ Objective :
Performs building inspections for cleanliness and corrects any deficiencies. Assigns custodial work orders, ensures meeting set-ups, and responds to emergency issues. Oversees the safety and training for the custodial team. This position is designated as Essential Personnel and is subject to after-hours recall.
Supervisory Responsibilities:- Supervises all custodial staff and oversees custodial contractors in their daily routines. Provides leadership, guidance, and supervision to assigned staff by establishing work priorities and performance objectives, ensuring high standards of performance, engaging in employee development and team building, providing regular constructive feedback, and assessing performance.
Essential Functions:- Coordinates and assigns work requests to custodial staff and custodial contractors. Performs inspections of assigned work and review of contractor invoices for processing approval.
- Inspects county facilities for safe and sanitary conditions daily to ensure contractors and County staff are satisfactorily performing assigned work.
- Plans training for custodial staff in proper procedures, chemical usage, equipment usage and safety procedures.
- Creates custodial project scopes and obtains quotes from contractors.
- Maintains accurate inventory of custodial supplies and equipment. Supervises procurement and distribution of custodial supplies and equipment. Maintains MSDS database.
- Performs daily custodial services in and around designated county facilities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Competency: Knowledge/ Skills/Abilities: - Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment to include the operation of heavy commercial cleaning equipment such as high-powered buffers and vacuums.
- Ability to understand the principles of great customer service and demonstrate it to custodial team.
- Setting and meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety regulations related to equipment operation, hazardous materials, and other work precautions.
- Establishes priorities for the completion in accordance with sound time-management methodology to meet strict deadlines.
- Ability to use specialized cleaning equipment and materials efficiently and economically.
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to understand, analyze, and evaluate situations and exercise good judgment to make appropriate decisions.
- Ability to listen and understand directions, information and ideas presented verbally or in writing.
Required Education and Experience:- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of high school or vocational school.
- At least five years’ experience in custodial/housekeeping field.
- SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Satisfactory health condition in order to meet the physical requirements of the job.
- Negative drug screening required.
- Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Preferred Qualifications/Certifications: - A minimum of two years supervisory experience is preferred.
Physical and Mental Requirements: - Cleaning and maintenance work done typically walking and standing.
- Some lifting and carrying objects weighing 12-50 pounds.
- Some furniture moving.
- Occasional operation of vehicles, shop equipment, power equipment, and hand tools requiring manipulative skills and hand-eye coordination.
- Work environment exposes employee to potential minor injuries and frequently adverse weather.
- Occasional exposure to potentially hazardous substances.
- Frequent and regular contacts with internal staff and the outside public for the purpose of providing custodial services.
Salary Range:The hiring range for this position is $24.98 - $27.61 per hour, which is approximately $51,954 - $57,422 per year. Starting offer is based on applicable education beyond minimum requirements and internal equity. The position also provides excellent benefits including 12 paid holidays, paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance options with employer contribution, employer-paid life insurance, VRS retirement, and continuing education/training opportunities. This is a full time, FLSA non-exempt position. Internal candidates will receive pay adjustments in accordance with Local Government Personnel Policy, §P-60.
