Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Equivalent Experience: - Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in research methods, statistical analysis, criminological theory, sociology, or a related field, plus five (5) years of related experience, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.
- Graduation with a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field may substitute for two (2) years of work experience.

The Police Data Initiatives and Analytics Strategy Officer works under general direction reporting directly to the Police Assistant Director. The position oversees the comprehensive and strategic approach in meeting the demands for data quality management and business analytics to assure policy and reporting are aligned with strategic goals and objectives within the Austin Police Department.
The incumbent for this position should have:
- Considerable knowledge of research methods, design and statistical analysis.
- Exceptional time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and responsibilities simultaneously.
- Computer experience, including Microsoft applications and other software necessary to perform job functions.
- Excellent command of grammar and the ability to write, edit, and proofread for accuracy.
- Some experience with computer languages such as Phython, SQL , C/Ctt, Java

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned. Develops, designs, and implements data quality policies and procedures to ensure accurate and appropriate information is communicated in reports and presentations. Analyzes business and workforce needs to develop targeted data management short- and long-term strategies. Plans and directs research studies to completion that involve selection of personnel, facilities, and subjects; including the collection and analysis of data and documentation of results. Sets priorities, determines methodologies, and selects techniques and approaches to be utilized in statistical analysis. Lead teams in data-oriented analysis, business analytics and process improvements that will ensure data integrity and reporting by identifying and resolving problem areas. Develop methods for utilizing and tracking information by providing comprehensive reports, informational graphics and visual aids to inform key policy makers about issues impacting the department. Implements operational plans to meet performance goals and improvements. Leads the creation of program business definitions and data management goals and principles to ensure compliance with required law enforcement standards and reporting. Coordinates planning with researchers at academic institutions and other criminal justice agencies and is responsible for identifying and defining systems of data collection. Plans and executes a variety of comprehensive statistical and criminological analyses, integrating outside statistics and research with data related to crime or community issues in order to determine future studies or analysis needed. Represents the APD on issues related to law enforcement statistical collection and reporting and remains current on relevant research literature as it may apply to department operations, policies, and initiatives. Plans the work of the assigned areas, determining optimal utilization of resources and staffing within allocated operating budgets. Oversees proficiency and evaluates applicability and impact for training requirements of assigned personnel.
