    The City of Waco Seeks
    Are you passionate about promoting health and wellness within communities? We are seeking a Public Health Education Specialist in Maternal & Child Health to develop and deliver impactful community outreach programs, educate the public on vital health topics, and foster strong partnerships to improve health outcomes. In this role, you will design and present engaging health education presentations, create educational materials, and coordinate training sessions to empower our community. Additionally, you will support maternal and child health initiatives by leading efforts within the Healthy Women & Children Coalition, working collaboratively with partners to set goals, develop strategies, and ensure sustainable progress.     Minimum Qualifications
    Required:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Business, Public Administration, or a related field
    • 1 year of experience in Training Programs
      • Or an equivalent combination of education & experience
    • Valid Driver's License

    Position Overview
    Under basic supervision, prepares and presents health education materials, provides outreach services for at-risk populations; conducts public educational forums on priority health issues. Engages and maintains partnerships with community members and local organizations to promote wellness, strengthen innovative collaboration, and drive policy and systems changes.

    Essential Functions
    • Plans and presents community outreach programs to promote health education, risk reduction and healthy behaviors; informs community of services available through Public Health District (PHD) and other community resources; prepares and delivers presentations on assigned health topics.
    • Prepares educational materials; coordinates and presents training and public education programs; collects, compiles and maintains data on PHD health education activities.
    • Researches health education issues; prepares educational materials; coordinates and presents training and public education programs; collects, compiles and maintains data on PHD health education activities.
    • Prepares grant proposals and updates public access websites, assists with training PHD staff.
    • Provides leadership, coordination of efforts, and facilitation of the Healthy Women & Children Coalition. Works with Healthy Women and Children Coalition partners to develop annual goals and objectives using evidence-based public health frameworks and within the scope of available resources and funding.
    • Fosters and develops new relationships with community partners to maximize participation and engagement in meetings and implementation of Healthy Women and Children Coalition strategies.
    • Works with coalition steering committee and Health District leadership to guide the direction of the coalition and move coalition initiatives toward sustainability. Compiles data and monthly/quarterly reports describing coalition efforts and other program deliverables.

    Governance and Organization

    Waco is a home rule city with a council-manager form of government. The City Council is comprised of a Mayor, elected at-large, and five City Council members representing single-member districts, all serving two-year terms. The City Council sets the tax rate, approves the budget, appoints members to City boards and commissions, enacts City ordinances, and appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, City Secretary, and the Municipal Court Judge.

    The City has a strong Financial Management Policy that guides the operation and delivery of quality City services, contributes to excellent AA+ and Aa1 bond ratings, and maintains an unassigned fund balance reserve in the General Fund equal to 28% of current year budgeted expenditures. The City of Waco has more than 1,600 employees and a total operating budget of over $400 million.

    The City provides a full range of municipal services including a regional airport, animal services, building inspections, code enforcement, convention and visitors bureau, emergency management, housing and community development, economic development, fire, public health, library, municipal court, parks and recreation, planning, police, public works, Texas Ranger Hall of Fame Museum, utilities and zoo operations.
