Examples of Duties - Develops, implements, and manages the workplan of the Wayside Systems Engineering groups, and ensures compliance with authorized budget and schedule
- Directs operational technical support for rail design, construction, start-up, testing, activation of systems, and pre-revenue and revenue operations
- Coordinates with Engineering Directors to plan and prioritize the department's work, and provides staff assignments on each project
- Directs engineering in the modification of rail systems and facilities
- Performs design review for new rail lines and rail activation processes
- Ensures that work complies with federal and state laws, rules, and regulations
- Develops work scopes and participates in negotiating consultant services contracts and contract changes; coordinates and reviews consultants' engineering design submittals
- Coordinates with and supports the Corporate Safety Department on rail safety, fire life safety, emergency procedures, and regulatory issues
- Confers with Metro management, staff, government officials, contractors, and consultants regarding engineering matters relating to systems and facility improvements
- Directs, trains, develops, mentors, motivates, and evaluates the performance of assigned staff
- Communicates and implements safety rules, policies, and procedures in support of the agency's safety vision and goals; and maintains accountability for the safety performance of all assigned employees

Minimum QualificationsA combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:
Education- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Architecture
Experience- Five years of relevant management-level experience in facilities engineering design and construction of public transit projects or major public agency projects
Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements- A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions
- Must pass a security clearance check
- Occasional exposure to weather, physical, mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards during site or right of way visits
- Travel to construction sites and access areas under construction
Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications (PQs) are used to identify relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) as determined by business necessity. These criteria are considered preferred qualifications and are not intended to serve as minimum requirements for the position. PQs will help support selection decisions throughout the recruitment. The following are the preferred qualifications:
- Experience overseeing and planning projects related to State of Good Repair
- Experience developing operating and capital budgets for financial forecasts
- Experience coordinating workforce management with departments such as Human Resources/Labor Relations to direct workforce planning, recruitments, and related issues
- Understanding of high voltage Traction Power Substations, heavy rail traction power 3rd rail systems, and overhead catenary systems desired
