    Position Overview:
    The Internal Audit Manager oversees and directs auditing work which includes investigating, reviewing, and analyzing financial information, internal controls, operational performance, and management practices to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures and local, state, and federal laws, statutes, and guidelines. This position serves as a division manager overseeing a team of professional internal auditors to provide audits across all aspects of Austin Water operations while adhering to professional auditing standards. This highly independent role involves collaborating with various stakeholders, including Austin Water executives, managers, front-line staff, the Office of City Auditor, and other city departments. The Internal Audit Manager serves as a single point of contact for the Austin Water Ethics Initiative, and this position may be responsible for investigating instances of potential fraud, waste, or abuse.

    Essential Position:
    This position has been designated as essential for the City of Austin. Essential positions maintain emergency services or provide public health, safety, utility services, and welfare of the community.     • Your skill level in some of the competency areas for this job will be assessed through skills testing - specifically for Microsoft Excel 2019. A 70% or above on the assessment is required to be considered for the next step.

    Travel:
    If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program , you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

    Effective October 1, 2014, all Austin Water worksite locations are tobacco-free. Use of tobacco products and/or e-cigarettes is not permitted on any AW worksite - including construction sites, parking lot, garage or in any personal vehicle located on the premises.

    $39.49 - $51.34

    • Experience conducting information technology and/or cybersecurity audits

    • Experience preparing and reviewing electronic working papers
    • Experience with data analytics and working with large, complex datasets
    • Experience managing and directly supervising internal audit staff

    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.


    Develop internal audit charter Develop audit policies, procedures, and templates Develop audit methodologies Prepare and monitor budget for the internal audit unit Coach others on audit skills Coordinate with other agencies and auditors Prepare annual audit plan Prepare risk assessments of the department or specific processes to be audited Direct auditors on assigned audits and special projects Oversee fraud investigations Plan audits, including objectives, scope, and audit program Recommend improvements Review work papers, summaries, and draft audit reports Communicate audit results to auditees Approve and issue final audit reports Present audit results to audit committee and/or executive management Implement Quality Assurance and Improvement Program to ensure compliance with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing Ensure that all auditors meet CPE requirements Monitor performance and resource needs of the internal audit unit

    City Government
