Through academic affiliations with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the University of Southern California (USC), and the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Sciences (CDU), DHS hospitals are training sites for physicians completing their Graduate Medical Education in nearly every medical specialty and subspecialty. In addition, to its direct clinical services, DHS also runs the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agency and the County's 911 emergency response system, as well as Housing for Health and the Office of Diversion and Re-entry, each with a meaningful role in connecting vulnerable populations, including those released from correctional and institutional settings, to supportive housing.

THE TEAM MEMBER WE ARE SEARCHING FOR: Performs journey-level general painting work that includes a wide variety of skilled interior and exterior painting tasks on buildings, equipment, furniture, signs, and other structures.
Essential Job FunctionsWhat are some responsibilities of a Painter:Performs interior and exterior painting, applying base and finish coats to various surfaces.
Prepares various surfaces and applies paints, both acrylic and oil base, enamels, stains, shellac, varnishes or other finishes.
Supervise apprentices and helpers as assigned.
Drive automotive equipment to work sites, as needed, including combination truck units with trailers of 6,000 pounds gross vehicle weight or over.
Erects and works on scaffolding, stages and ladders.
Works on lifts and bucket trucks at moderate heights above ground.
Maintains tools and equipment.
Cleans and maintains equipment, including spray guns, and ensures accurate use, repair, and storage of materials, tools, and equipment.
Mixes and matches paint for touch-up work.
Remove/abate lead paint as assigned.
Requirements REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY: Option I: Completion of a recognized painter apprentice training program* of at least three (3) years duration.
*A recognized painter apprentice training program is approved and validated by the U.S. Department of Labor or a State Apprenticeship Agency. Applicants who expect to qualify under Option I, must include a legible photocopy of their apprenticeship training certificate.
Option II: Four (4) years of experience in painting work**, one (1) year of which must have been at the journey- level***.
**Painting work is defined as: Painting the interior and exterior of buildings, surface preparation, mixing paints, and using various painting tools.
***Journey-level experience applies to a person who has completed an apprenticeship program or is an experienced worker, not a trainee, and is fully qualified and able to perform a specific trade without supervision. E.g., selecting appropriate problem solving methods and techniques, locating appropriate regulations, or applying accurate procedures to carry out work.
LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS III - MODERATE: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional listing of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Vision: Keen color perception.

The passing score for the assessment is 70%
ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION: Applications are processed as they are received and added to the eligible register accordingly.
Candidates who passed the assessment(s) are placed on a register in order of their score group for a period of (12) months. We will use this list to fill vacancies throughout the Department of Health Services as they occur.
