    THE AGENCY
    The General Services Agency (GSA) is made up of Fleet Services, Facilities, Procurement, Special Services, Security and Business Support, and the Parks Department and is responsible for a broad spectrum of services to all the County departments and agencies. It requires a very diverse workforce to accomplish the GSA mission of contributing to the quality of life in Ventura County by partnering with their customers to provide expertise and cost-effective service delivery, and foster the preservation of natural resources.

    THE POSITION
    Under general supervision, performs document production functions, in a print shop environment, in such areas as print production, scanning, indexing, bindery, copying or related services as required.

    The ideal candidate will have experience in a production print and print-to-mail environment, be customer service oriented, and have the ability to operate high-volume scanners, document finishing equipment, and production printers.

    PAYROLL TITLES AND APPROXIMATE SALARIES:
    Graphics Technician I: $21.00 - $25.15 per hour
    Graphics Technician II: $27.22 - $32.08 per hourWHAT WE OFFER
    • Educational Incentive: 2.5% for an Associate's degree, 3.5% for a Bachelor's degree, or 5% for a Master's degree.
    • Vacation Accrual - New regular, full-time employees shall accrue approximately 14 days of vacation a year for the first 10,400 hours or 5 years of service; vacation accruals increase at 5, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 20 years of service topping out at 26 days a year and 400 hours of vacation hours banked.
    • Vacation Leave Redemption - After 14,560 hours of continuous County service an employee may elect to "cash in" or redeem up to 80 hours of vacation accrued in the same year after using 80 hours of vacation in the preceding 12 months.
    • Sick Leave - Full time regular employees accrue 3.08 hours of sick leave per pay period with an advance at hire of 40.04 hours which will be balanced at the completion of 13 bi-weekly pay periods.
    • Flexible Credit Allowance: Biweekly contribution towards medical, dental, and/or vision insurance from authorized plans.
    • Deferred Compensation: County match of up to 3%, dependent upon your contribution amount.
    • Pension Plan: Participation in the County's defined benefit plan.
    • Holidays - 12 paid days per year which, includes a scheduled floating holiday.

    Graphics Technician I/II is represented by the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 501 (IUOE) and is eligible for overtime compensation.

    Examples Of Duties

    Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
    • Set up and operate of a wide variety of equipment used in document finishing including; mail inserters, envelope address printers, tabbers, cutters, staplers, paper drills, folders, wrappers and collators.
    • Clean, maintain, and perform minor repairs on a wide variety of equipment used in document production and finishing; monitor equipment and set up service calls as necessary to ensure proper functioning of equipment.
    • Wrap, pack, and manually process outgoing finished jobs.
    • Monitor and maintain supplies; requisition supplies to meet project demand.
    • Set up and operate networked digital printers/copiers (black & white and color) to produce printed materials.
    • Prepare, scan and index documents for electronic storage using production level scanners and document capture software.
    • Set up and operate networked digital printers/copiers (black & white and color) to produce printed materials.
    • Use document content management systems and web-to-print applications to manage files and access files and accounts to support scan workflows, indexing, version control, and synchronization with digital print systems.
    • Enter data from job tickets that are related to production activity to generate billing records.
    • Perform other related duties as required.


    Typical Qualifications

    Any combination of education and experience which had led to the acquisition of the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

    Level I: The required knowledge, skills and abilities also can be obtained by six (6) months of related experience.

    Level II: The required knowledge, skills and abilities also can be obtained by one (1) year of related experience.

    NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS
    • The ability to kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, twist and lift to accomplish assigned tasks.


    DESIRED
    • Some Experience with pre-press functions across PDF and Adobe InDesign applications.


    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

    Basic (Level I) to working (Level II) knowledge of :
    • Print/document production methods and procedures,
    • Safety,
    • Graphics related computers/software,
    • Customer service practices

    Ability to:
    • Independently operate complex graphics equipment,
    • Follow complicated oral and written instructions,
    • Perform accurate data entry (billing, timecards, workload and inventory tracking, supply requisition).
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

    SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE - qualifying

    APPLICATION EVALUATION - qualifying:
    All applications will be reviewed to determine whether or not the stated requirements are met. Those individuals meeting the stated requirements will be invited to continue to the next step in the examination process.

    WRITTEN EXAMINATION

    An un-proctored, internet-based, job-related written examination will be conducted to evaluate participating applicants' ability to make accurate comparisons, file, follow written instructions, and accurately complete/check forms. Examinees must earn a score of seventy percent (70%) or higher to qualify for placement on the eligible list.

    ELIGIBLE LIST
    If there are three (3) or fewer qualified applicants, an examination will not be conducted. Instead, a score of seventy percent (70%) will be assigned to each application, and each applicant will be placed on the eligible list.

    Candidates successfully completing the exam process may be placed on an eligible list for a period of one (1) year.

    The eligible list established from the recruitment may be used to fill present and future Regular, Temporary, Fixed-term, Intermittent and Extra Help vacancies. There is currently one (1) Regular vacancy.

    If appointed at the lower level, the incumbent may be promoted to the higher level without further exam upon meeting the minimum requirements, demonstrating satisfactory performance, and in accordance with the business needs of the department.
