    • Graduation with Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in a field related to the job plus three (3) years of experience in a field related to the job, one (1) year of which was in a lead, supervisory, project or program management capacity.

    The purpose of the Program Manager I position is to guide the development and execution of a comprehensive management program for the stewardship of historic resources of the park system.
    • The Program Manager I position manages the Architectural Development Division’s Historic Preservation and Tourism Program, guiding the program team that provides public history, site interpretation, program activation, and marketing to tourists in support of Capital Improvement Projects and other projects to fulfill the requirements of the Historic Preservation Fund.
    • The Program Manager I will lead the interpretive function of the program with staff and park partners, which includes developing and continually updating interpretive content guidelines and procedures for Parks and Recreation Department historic resources.
    • The Program Manager I will be responsible for responding to requests for information from city leadership, the media, and the public regarding the stewardship of the park system’s historic resources.

To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
    • Physical Requirements: Tasks may involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying or using a force equal to lifting up to twenty (20) pounds. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Work environment includes inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme temperatures, and hazards associated with equipment operation including fumes, oils, gases and mists. Must be physically and mentally able to communicate, respond and work with participant’s needs and safety issues

    • Travel: If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program , you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

    Pay Range
    $30.70 - $38.37 per hour.

    Hours
    Work/Location Schedule:
    • Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m.. to 5:00 p.m.
    • May be required to work during special events, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
    • Work schedule and location is subject to change based on department needs and programs.
    • May be required to work during city emergencies such as extreme weather events.

    Preferred Experience:
    • Experience in Public History or Historic Preservation
    • Experience monitoring numerous historic and cultural resources that are designated historic landmarks or eligible for designation on local, state, and federal levels, as well as archaeological sites.
    • Experience with historic preservation projects, including as a history subject matter expert for departmental plans and processes.
    • Municipality experience representing the employer at City Council, Board, and Commission Meetings, including media communication skills (on-camera, verbally, and in writing).
    • Experience in development and management of Historic Resource Inventory in GIS or experience with other asset management development and tracking.
    • Experience developing and monitoring budgets.


    Preferred Skills:
    • Software skill with ArcGIS, MS Office Suite or similar software.

    Other:
    • Ability to travel to more than one work location.
    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

Monitors and evaluate programs effectiveness and implements improvement strategies. Manages the budget of assigned program and associated projects and provides financial information. Assists in developing, managing and submitting proposed budget forecast information. Manages, coordinates, implements and monitors projects associated with assigned program. Interacts with internal and external customers. Investigates and responds to inquiries from the public and other departments. Provides technical advice and assistance to department management, city management, field personnel, contractors, etc.

    City Government
