    Full-time position available with the Parks & Recreation Department, Marketing & Events Division located at 4600 E. 63rd St.
    Starting Salary: $4,619/monthly
    Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

    Responsibilities

    • Develops and implements communication strategies that promote Parks and Recreation programs and initiatives.
    • Drafts and distributes press releases.
    • Serve as the department spokesperson in print, online, and on-camera interviews.
    • Builds relationships with media outlets to ensure accurate and timely reporting on park-related matters.
    • Writes, edits, and publishes engaging content for the website, newsletters, social media, and marketing materials.
    • Creates and manages visual content, including photography, video, graphic design, and motion animation to support storytelling and outreach efforts.
    • Ensures all content aligns with brand guidelines and resonates with diverse audiences.
    • Stays up to date with current design, social media, and content trends to maximize engagement.
    • Develops and implements a social media strategy to increase awareness, promote services, and engage residents.
    • Responds to public inquiries, comments, and concerns on digital platforms in a timely and professional manner.
    • Presents at parks events, celebrations, and community activations to capture and share content, engage with attendees, and promote Parks and Recreation initiatives.
    • Plans, coordinates, and attends community events, press conferences, and public outreach efforts.
    • Works closely with internal departments to align messaging, execute campaigns, and troubleshoot challenges.
    • Manages multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines and objectives are met.
    • Identifies new ways to promote city services and better connect with the community.
    • Performs all other duties as assigned.



    Qualifications

    REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree and 3 years of professional experience in business or public sector administration to include at least 2 years performing administrative and/or supervisory work involving more complex projects or programs; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience with at least 2 years performing administrative and/or supervisory work involving more complex projects or programs.

    Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

    The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
    For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
    Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

    If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
