The City of Irvine seeks multiple collaborative and customer service oriented individuals to take on the role of Library Assistant Iin the development of Irvine’s new public library system. The Librarian Assistant will provide a wide variety of paraprofessional and technical library assistance to the public under direct or general supervision. Please note that this position will require occasional evening and weekend shifts.

    Part-time Hourly Range:

    Library Assistant I (extended part-time/part-time) - $26.86 - $42.26 Hourly

    Your Impact
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Assists library customers in the use of library services and technology, and provides basic information and research assistance to the public.
    • Assists with collection maintenance as directed.
    • Assists with implementing general library programming and other library-related activities.
    • Assists with interpreting and applying library policies and procedures for customers.
    • Participates in community and outreach events as directed.
    • Assist with the supervision of facility rentals and enforce rules applicable to that reservation

    Minimum Qualifications
    Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
    • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or one-year of experience working in a library as a Library Assistant or higher. College level coursework in Library Science or a related field is highly desirable.

    • Basic knowledge of library information resources and technology
    The Process
    The selection process will include an examination and a background investigation prior to appointment. This recruitment may establish an eligibility list to fill future positions in similar and/or lower classifications within the organization.
