The purpose of this
Exhibit Coordinator position is to perform tasks in the development and implementation of exhibits and exhibit activities, managing the Austin Nature & Science Center’s Natural History Collections, and coordinating volunteer activities. Exhibits include indoor and outdoor spaces, as well as the Center’s online exhibit information on our website and social media accounts. This position also supports exhibits at the Beverly S. Sheffield Education Center.

- Physical Requirements: Tasks may involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying, or using a force equal to lifting up to thirty-five (35) pounds. Work environment includes inside, and outside environmental conditions, extreme temperatures, and hazards associated with equipment operation including fumes, oils, gases, and mists. Must be physically and mentally able to communicate, respond, and work with participant’s needs and safety issues.

Pay Range
$25.74 - $30.50 per hour.

Work/Location Schedule Notes: - Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Hours and location may vary depending on departmental needs.
- May be required to work during special events, evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays.
- May be required to work during City emergencies such as extreme weather events.

Preferred Experience: - Experience with fabrication and maintenance of indoor and outdoor exhibits and buildings.
- Experience in maintaining and analyzing nature center or museum collections and records.
- Experience handling, cleaning, and/or repairing natural history objects (e.g., taxidermal items, shells, animal horns, plants, or other natural specimens).
- Experience providing customer service to members of the public and working with individuals of diverse social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
Other: - Ability to travel to more than one work location.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

1. Leads volunteers, staff or contractors.
2. Examines objects to be included in exhibits.
3. Ensures accuracy in exhibit production, information and exhibit activities.
3. Develops long range and short range goals.
4. Coordinates, plans, develop designs, produces and evaluates exhibits, displays, and visual presentation materials.
5. Develops and monitors budgets and fiscal reports.
6. Ensures timely development, scheduling and performance of exhibit activities and projects.
7. Oversees the day-to-day management and care of assigned collections, exhibits, records, and exhibits assets.
8. Allocates and purchases resources
9. Coordinates the design and creation of marketing materials.
10. Researches and applies for grants.
