The Communications Team's goal is to ensure that residents and businesses have access to trusted, accurate and easy-to-understand information. The communications team manages multiple communications channels and develops content for each channel, including the following:
- The city and RCPD websites
- Three digital newsletters : Rancho Cordova News , Rancho Cordova Events and Rancho Cordova Alerts
- Social media : Facebook, X, Instagram, Nextdoor, Threads, YouTube and LinkedIn.
- City publications
In addition, the team responds to media inquiries ; coordinates city news announcements ; supports city departments and divisions with public education efforts ; and manages internal communications.
The Ideal Candidates The City of Rancho Cordova's Communications & Public Affairs Department is seeking
two (2) student interns to work with the City's Communications Team. The individuals should have a desire to assist with communications, marketing and public relations projects. The ideal candidates would have strong writing and organizational skills; knowledge of researching and drafting website content; and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Strong proficiency in the following areas is essential for success in this role:
- Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Social Media Channels (Facebook, Instagram, X, Nextdoor)
- Additional experience with the following tools is highly desirable but not required: Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Constant Contact, Canva, and website content management systems.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to:
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Maintain attention to detail and a high level of organization
- Exhibit proficiency in use of modern office methods and equipment
- Interact professionally with residents, businesses and other City staff
- Work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Qualifications: College coursework and experience related to Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, English and related majors.
Education : Must be currently enrolled in six or more units towards a Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to the area of assignment.
Experience : Previous internships for news organizations or Public Relations agencies is desirable.
License or Certificate: Possession of a valid CA Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record as determined by the City.
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTSRequires the mobility and manual dexterity to work in a standard office environment, use standard office equipment; speech and hearing to communicate in person and by telephone; vision to read handwritten and printed materials and a computer screen; strength and agility to lift and carry items weighing up to 10 pounds; emotional and psychological capability to work alone, concentrate, or have frequent public and/or coworker contact.
