    The Position

    Legal Secretaries perform specialized secretarial duties for attorneys, administrative law judges, and/or hearings/appeals officers including preparing legal documents and correspondence; calendaring; maintaining records; and providing assistance on routine problems and inquiries which are not of a legal nature.

    Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

    This is a Legal Secretary 2 position for the Dept. of Motor Vehicles, Administrative Hearings Office, located at the Sahara office in Las Vegas. The incumbent will use applicable statutes and administrative regulations to help determine if the Department has jurisdiction for action to be taken. This position will obtain thorough and appropriate information to process hearing requests; perform specialized secretarial duties for administrative law judges including preparing legal documents and correspondence; calendaring; maintaining records; and providing aid on routine problems and inquiries that are not of a legal nature. The position also will provide clerical support to assigned administrative law judge and/or supervisory staff; receive and screen visitors; answer phones; greet parties appearing at hearings; open and review incoming mail and distribute appropriately, in addition to processing and filing the appropriate legal documents in accordance with the specific time frames and procedures as set out by statutes and regulations. Familiarity with Microsoft Office 365 will be beneficial to the incumbent's success but is not required. Under the authority of NRS 239B.010.1(b), the DMV utilizes NRS 205.4605 - 205.810, NRS 293.504, NRS 293.5045, 6 CFR 37.45, 49 CFR 1572.103, and 49 CFR 384.228 as criteria to obtain a FBI fingerprint clearance check on current and prospective employees.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of clerical experience, two of which were performing progressively responsible legal secretarial work in a training capacity; OR one year of experience as a Legal Secretary I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes An Associate of Science degree with a legal secretarial emphasis is equivalent to one year of legal secretarial trainee experience. Completion of a legal secretarial diploma program from an accredited business college is equivalent to one year of legal secretarial trainee experience. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. Some positions require incumbents to be a notary public. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.     Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
