    Pay Range: $22.90/hr. - $27.62/hr. | $47,632 - $59,539 annual

    A Medical & Leave Assistant position is available with the City of Fort Worth Police Department / Medical Records Unit (MRU). The MRU provides services to all PD personnel (sworn and civilian), approximately 2,400 employees. The unit’s workload is constant, the demands are high, and priorities can change with little notice.

    This position will act as the unit’s Medical & Leave Assistant Technical Lead and contributes to the police Departments strategic goals, mission and vision by:
    • Managing the Workers’ Compensation and Return to Work Program.
    • Managing Reasonable accommodation efforts (in accordance with the Americans with Disability Act (ADA).
    • Providing consultation, information, and resources relating to the various leave programs to PD personnel; Provides training and education to the PD employees, supervisors, and managers;
    • Receiving and processing medical documentation from healthcare providers, insurance carriers, PD employees, and Third-Party Administrators (TPA)

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Associates degree from an accredited college with major course work in Human Resources, Medical Management, Business Management, Medical Officer Administration or related field and ;
    • Four (4) years clerical and administrative experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Six (6) years (or more) of professional clerical and/or professional office administrative experience - will substitute for educational requirements
    • Human Resources experience, working with Workers’ compensation claims, employee information and benefits, medical cases
    • Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with all levels of an organization
    • Advanced proficiency working with Microsoft office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Adobe Professional
    • Prior lead/supervisory experience in a professional working environment

    The Medical & Leave Assistant job responsibilities include:
    • Serve as liaison between the Department and external third-party administrators vendors for FMLA and ADA (i.e. respond to request for information from employees, supervisory and management staff, representatives from other City Departments, and external parties).
    • Processes First Report of Injury/Exposure/Illness claims in the workers’ compensation third-party administrator’s system, and in the workers’ compensation database and spreadsheet.
    • Provides consultation, information and internal resources to PD personnel on various leave programs, such as the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the City’s Paid Parental Leave Program, and other benefit programs.
    • Respond to inquiries, resolve issues, and provide tracking reports on all assigned programs and areas of responsibility.
    • Follow internal policy and procedures for all assigned programs and areas of responsibilities (i.e. medical case management, monitor leave statuses, notification to all stakeholders, process workers compensation claims status reports; provide workers’ compensation medical records etc...)
    • Provides outstanding customer service to internal and external customers by resolving complaints or directing employees to the appropriate department or personnel in a timely manner.
    • Assist management with additional responsibilities as assigned (i.e. Training, co-worker oversight, work product quality control reviews etc..)

    Working Conditions

    Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking and repetitive motions.

    Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions in the last 10 years, Class A Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication in the last 10 years, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and ALL Family Violence Convictions regardless of class.

    Physical Conditions

    Light Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work.

    Medical Program

    The City offers two plan options through Meritain Health, an Aetna company.

    The Health Center Plan – Offers employees and their family’s

Employees can visit any one of the three City of Fort Worth Employee Health Centers and receive guaranteed same or next day appointments for sick visits. Also, services are available at any one of the five satellite locations that serves employees across the city.

    The Consumer Choice Plan – Is offered to employees at no cost or low monthly premiums to cover eligible dependents and provides the financial benefits of a Health Savings Account (HSA).

    • Preventative services are covered at 100% on both plans.
    • Prescription Drug coverage including mail order pharmacy are also included.

    Vacation

    Eligible for 3 weeks of vacation: After successful completion of probationary period (usually
    6 months), employees may take time off for rest, relaxation, vacation, illness, religious observances, and personal business.

    Holidays

    Available on the first day of employment, the city provides employees with paid holidays, including two personal holidays.

    Wellness Program

    The city’s Healthy Challenge Wellness Program rewards all full-time, benefit-eligible employees on the city’s health insurance. The Healthy Challenge Program utilizes a points system. Participants may earn points throughout the year (Jan. 1-Dec. 15) for completing specific program activities and participants can redeem points at the end of the year for a cash reward. By participating, individuals can earn $150, $200 or $250 by accumulating program points.
