What You’ll Do- Perform maintenance, inspections, and repairs on a diverse fleet of city vehicles and equipment.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Maintain detailed service records to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Assist with emergency repairs to keep essential city services running smoothly.

- Proficiency with diagnostic tools and repair techniques.

Candidates may qualify at either level listed below. Fleet Maintenance Technician I (Entry-level)- Preferred Qualifications: Minimum of two years of training and/or experience in automotive and equipment maintenance and repair is required. Hydraulic experience preferred.
- Required Certifications:
- Air conditioning recovery and recycling certification.
- Pay Range: Starting at $21.75, up to $28.90, depending on qualifications.
Fleet Maintenance Technician II- Preferred Qualifications:Minimum of three years of training and/or experience in automotive and equipment maintenance and repair is required. Hydraulic experience preferred.
- Required Certifications:
- EVT F1 or F2 and ASE Brakes, ASE suspension, ASE of your choice.
- Air conditioning recovery and recycling certification.
- Pay Range: Starting at $23.75, up to $31.79, depending on qualifications.
Fleet Maintenance Technician III- Preferred Qualifications: Minimum of six years of training and/or experience in automotive and equipment maintenance and repair is required. Hydraulic experience preferred.
- Required Certifications:
- Air conditioning refrigerant recovery and recycling certification.
- A combination of three ASE certifications is required, including:
- Mandatory: Brakes and suspension.
- Optional:
- Heavy equipment: F1 or F2 plus F3 and F4
- Light equipment: F1 or F2, plus L1 and ASE electrical.
- Pay Range: Starting at $25.50, up to $34.97, depending on qualifications.
Fleet Maintenance Technician IV- Preferred Qualifications: Minimum of ten years of training and/or experience in automotive and equipment maintenance and repair is required. Hydraulic experience preferred.
- Required Certifications:
- Air conditioning refrigerant recovery and recycling certification.
- ASE Master Mechanic certification.
- Additional Requirements:
- Light Equipment: EVT L1 certification
- Heavy Equipment: All EVT training
- Pay Range: Starting at $28.00, up to $39.06, depending on qualifications.
Additional Requirements for All Levels:- A valid driver's license and favorable driving record are required.
- A Class B commercial driver’s license with air brake endorsement and a DOT Medical Certification must be obtained within six months of employment.
Work Schedule:Monday - Friday: 11:00AM - 7:30PM
(includes a $.74 per hour shift differential)

For more details, review the full job details and requirements below.The Fleet Maintenance Technician I performs skilled maintenance diagnostics and repairs to automotive, light and medium duty trucks, and various equipment such as but not limited to automobiles, trucks, tractors, and lawn mowers to ensure vehicles and equipment operate safely and efficiently. This position is part of a four-level career progression of Fleet Maintenance Technician I, II, III and IV.
Key Responsibilities- Analyzes vehicle and equipment failures; determines causes, recommends and/or completes repairs, including but not limited to engine, transmission, brake suspension, hydraulic and electrical systems using proper safety devices and procedures.
- Performs preventative maintenance and inspections on a wide variety of vehicles and equipment to mitigate breakdowns and extend their lifespan.
- Responds to emergency repairs and service calls on vehicles and equipment including afterhours and snow emergencies.
- Uses Fleet Software and other IT programs to maintain detailed records of repairs, equipment usage and condition.
QualificationsExperience:A minimum of two years of training and/or experience in automotive and equipment maintenance and repair is required. Hydraulic experience preferred.
Education:A high school diploma or equivalent supplemented with coursework in automotive service is required.A certificate or diploma through an automobile mechanic trade school is preferred. Equivalent and relevant experience may be substituted for education.
Licenses & Certifications:A valid driver’s license with favorable driving record is required. Within six months of employment, a Class B commercial driver’s license with air brake endorsement and a DOT medical certification must be obtained.Air conditioning refrigerant, recovery and recycling certification required.
Environmental or Physical Demands: Work often requires exposure to dust, dirt, heat, cold, odor and noises. Work is performed in the Vehicle Maintenance shop and in the field.
