    SPECIAL SALARY INFORMATION
    Traffic Mitigation Allowance: The County of Los Angeles provides employees who work in the Civic Center a $70/month transportation allowance that may be used towards alternate modes of mitigation and/or parking.     ABOUT THIS POSITION

    Positions in this entry level class:
    • Report to a Supervising Deputy Public Administrator and may receive guidance from a Senior Deputy Public Administrator.
    • Undergo on-the-job training and gradually take on more responsibility in decedent estate, trust, or real property management.
    • Investigate whether estates and trusts are eligible for Public Administrator jurisdiction for probate or administration.
    • Manage estates and trusts during probate, including protecting, collecting, inventorying, appraising, and distributing assets to satisfy claims.
    • Manage real property assets of estates and trusts under the Public Administrator or County of Los Angeles Department of Mental Health, Office of the Public Guardian.
    • Follow guidelines, departmental policies, legal codes, and interact with the public.
    • Enter residences with biohazardous materials, pest, or rodent infestations, as needed.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Receives instruction and learns the laws, court decisions, and departmental policies and procedures that govern the administration of estates and trusts.
    • Investigates referrals for decedent estate/trust administration.
    • Conducts extensive research to locate heirs to determine heirship.
    • Confers with other divisions, departments, and government agencies.
    • Maintains records and statistics; updates case files; and prepares letters, reports, and other forms of memoranda.
    • Searches, locates, and arranges for the safekeeping of real and personal property and records of estate/trust holdings of decedents.
    • Makes funeral arrangements according to burial instructions, provisions of the will, or departmental and court policy.
    • Reviews the legitimacy of claims against decedent estates or trusts.
    • Prepares real property for disposition by conducting research on real property and related assets and liabilities.
    • Facilitates and oversees auction process.

    REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY
    To be considered for this role, you will need to have a Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a specialization in the social sciences, behavioral sciences, business administration, accounting, or a related field at the time of hire and will need to provide the hiring team supporting documentation.

    LICENSE
    A valid California Class "C" Driver License is required at the time of appointment. Successful applicants for positions that require driving must obtain and present a copy of his/her driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before final appointment. Applicants should not present a copy of their driving history until asked to do so by the hiring department. The County will make an individualized assessment of whether an applicant’s driving history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job. License must not be currently suspended, restricted, or revoked.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    Deputy Public Administrator I’s are required to comply with continuing education requirements as established by the California State Association of Public Administrators/Public Guardians/Public Conservators, pursuant to Probate Code section 7605.

    PHYSICAL CLASS
    Physical Class IV - Arduous: This class involves frequent heavy lifting over 25 pounds, often combined with bending, twisting, or working above ground on irregular surfaces. It includes those positions that occasionally demand extraordinary physical activity such as those in Safety positions.

    This examination will consist of TWO (2) parts:

    MULTIPLE CHOICE, SIMULATION ASSESSMENT(S), AND SITUATIONAL JUDGMENT TESTS CANNOT BE REVIEWED PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.

    ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION
    Candidates who passed the assessment are placed on a list in the order of their score group for a period of six (6) months. We will use this list to fill vacancies in the Department of Treasurer and Tax Collector, located in downtown, as they occur.
