    Full-time position available with the Water Department, Finance Division located at 4800 E. 63rd St.
    Salary Range: $7,268-$10,902/month
    Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

    Responsibilities

    • Manages and supervises financial operations in the Water Department.
    • Develops and maintains financial models and reporting systems to ensure accurate tracking of revenue, expenses, and performance against budget.
    • Prepares and presents monthly and annual financial reports for senior management, governing boards, and external auditors and other entities.
    • Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including financial reporting requirements.
    • Supports the development and implementation of financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
    • Supervises and mentors the fiscal services team, providing training and professional development opportunities.
    • Collaborates with external auditors to support the annual audit process and resolve any audit issues.
    • Provides financial guidance and analysis to senior leadership on utility operations and capital planning.
    • Participates in the development of strategic long-term financial plans for the water utility, including capital improvement plans and rate-setting strategies.



    Qualifications

    REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related subject area; and 5 (OR an accredited Master's degree in the mentioned fields and 4) years professional experience of a progressively responsible nature in corporate or municipal finance including but not limited to accounting, banking, billing and collections, debt and investment portfolio management, financial reporting, development review, and projecting and monitoring tax and fee activities, including 2 years' experience managing financial projects and/or programs. Preference given for an accredited Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field and a minimum of 5 years of financial management experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably in a utility or public sector environment; strong knowledge of utility financial practices, accounting principles, and regulatory requirements; proficiency in financial software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite; excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.

    The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
    For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
    Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

    If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
