Job Summary Under general direction, assists with developing and implementing communication strategies that educate and inform customers about energy efficiency, service interruptions, and other electricity-related topics for Bryan Texas Utilities ( BTU ). This position plays a key role in content creation, media relations, and community engagement to enhance public awareness of BTU’s services and initiatives.
Essential Job Functions - Collaboratively develops and executes communication strategies to promote BTU’s relationship with the community, energy efficiency, and utility mission.
- Produces multimedia content, such as videos and graphics, for use on social media channels, website, and print.
- Creates and disseminates press releases, newsletters, public service announcements, and other informational materials to the media and public at large.
- Monitors and assesses public presence in media and public comment to inform and direct communication priorities.
- Compiles, prepares, and maintains reports on communication activities and their impact on public awareness and engagement.
- Supports crisis communication efforts, including drafting emergency notifications and coordinating messaging during service interruptions.
- Maintains and updates the organization’s website.
- Assists in organizing and promoting community events, educational programs, and outreach initiatives.
- Documents utility events, facilities, projects, initiatives, etc. by taking high-quality photographs as needed.
- Assists with departmental graphic design needs, including development of logos, banners, posters, flyers, brochures, postcards, advertisements, and booklets as needed; assists with the management of all archived print, web, and video content.
- Creates proactive internal communication strategies.
- Works with internal and external subjects to develop content for printed publications.
- Responds regularly and promptly to work.
- Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications - Master’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Graphic Design, Computer Science, or a similar field of study plus at least two (2) years of directly related experience; OR a Bachelor’s degree in the specified areas plus at least four (4) years of related experience
- Must possess a strong competency in the areas of multimedia production and display in both electronic and print formats; to include but not limited to content writing, video production, and/or graphic design.
Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements Texas Class C driver’s license with a good driving record as measured by the City’s evaluation system.
