Job Summary: Responsible for providing a variety of services in Youth Services including, but not limited to customer service, creating and managing displays, programming’s, readers advisory, and gaming. Flexible schedule requires some evenings, some mornings, and Saturdays. This position is predominantly customer service focused with most of the scheduled time at a public desk in either the Children's department or Teens. This position reports to the Youth Services Division Manager.
The salary range for this position is
$18.79- $25.37 per hour with a hiring range of
$18.79 - $22.08, depending on qualifications and experience.
This is a Benefitted 20 Hours per week position. This opportunity will be available to applicants until Friday, 3.21.25 at 12:00 P.M. M.S.T. Essential Functions: - Relationship building, behavior support and customer service, including reference, reader’s advisory and technology assistance to diverse families and youth of all ages.
- Perform customer service at both Children's and Teen Hangout public desks.
- Coordination of space including instructing patrons and staff on proper use of equipment.
- Management of library resources and literacy programs.
- Assist with teen and children's programs and services.
- Assist with creating engaging displays.
- Assist with collection development and maintenance.
- Maintenance of the overall organization, appearance and cleanliness of the division including, but not limited to shelving materials, shelf reading, placing books on display, shifting within stacks.
- Accurately record and report statistics about use of youth service space and materials.
Other Job Functions: - May coordinate and direct work of volunteers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Education: - Associate Degree required.
- Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Experience: - 1 year progressively responsible experience in libraries or a related field required. Must be in addition to any experience used to satisfy the education requirement.
- Experience providing customer service to diverse individuals and groups of all ages preferred.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for education requirements on a year for year basis. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Ability to relate to and guide children, tweens and teens. Ability to perform job duties effectively during relaxed and stressed activity levels within the department.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. General knowledge of computer-based library systems, Microsoft Office, web and maker technologies.
- Ability to positively inspire and energize patrons of all ages about library services and materials.
- Ability to learn new task skills on the job. Ability to work independently, complete tasks on time and constructively problem solve.
- Ability to switch frequently between managing two distinct spaces (Children's and Teen Hangout) with a focus on supporting developmentally appropriate behaviors and building relationships in each area.
- Knowledge of early literacy practices, juvenile and young adult literature, and youth popular culture. Spanish language proficiency a plus.
- Welcomes diverse populations, including but not limited to cultural, racial, economic, and ethnic diversity.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions: - Frequent m inimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal.
- Frequent l ight to moderate physical effort that includes frequent standing or walking or maintaining arms and hands in the same position for repetitive tasks. Frequently works with light objects and light hand tools.
- Frequent exposure to routine office noise and equipment.
- Occasional m oderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions. Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-50 lbs) and use of medium weight tools.
- Occasional e xposure to hazards typically found in general office environments where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident.
