    Minimum Qualifications
    This position will be filled at one of the following levels depending upon candidate qualifications:

    Engineering Associate A
    Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job.
    Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years.

    Licenses and Certifications Required:
    None.

    Engineering Associate B: Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus two (2) years related experience.
    Experience may be substituted for education up to a maximum of four (4) years.
    Licenses and Certifications Required:
    None. Engineering Associate C:
    • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to engineering, plus four (4) years of experience in a field related to the job, one (1) year in a lead capacity.
    • Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years

    About the job:

    Engineering Associate
    Austin Transportation and Public Works Department - Office of Special Events

    The Engineering Associate is responsible for developing complex temporary traffic control plans for special events within the City of Austin’s right-of-way using AutoCAD. This role involves inspecting events to identifying areas for improvement and ensuring compliance with approved plans. Any deviations from the established plans will be documented and communicated to event promotors. Additionally, the Engineering Associate will review traffic control plans and engineering documents to ensure conformance with Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, and initiatives related to temporary traffic control for special events.

    Salary:

    • Engineering Associate A: $27.41 to $33.30
    • Engineering Associate B: $29.23 to $36.54
    • Engineering Associate C: $32.23 to $40.29

    • Extensive experience in creating Traffic Control Plans with AutoCAD.
    • Proven expertise in developing temporary traffic control plans for special events.
    • Strong familiarity with special events requiring temporary traffic control.
    • Hands-on experience conducting field checks to verify plan accuracy for special events.
    • Skilled in reviewing and redlining Traffic Control Plans for compliance and accuracy according to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices ( MUTCD ).
    • Valid Texas Driver’s License.
    • Preferred experience in Right-of-Way ( ROW ), special events, or related engineering fields.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
    • If selected for an interview an AutoCAD skills assessment may be performed.
    • Ability to travel to more than one work location

    City Government
