    The Position

    **Temporary Position**

    Bargaining Unit: IFPTE, Local 21

    The Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office is seeking to fill one (1) temporary position for Victim/Witness Assistance Program Supervisor/Mass Victimization Advocate. Victims of crime face many challenges after a crime has occurred. The Victim Assistance Program in the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office seeks to empower victims of crime through advocacy and support. Victim Advocates work closely with District Attorney staff, community-based organizations, and law enforcement to meet the needs of crime victims and their families.

    The Victim Assistance team is made up of dedicated Victim Advocates who use creative strategies to support crime victims. Staff work in a fast-paced environment and provide direct services to victims and families as they navigate the criminal justice process. Victim Advocates also partner with California Victim Compensation Board staff to assist victims with applications to address crime related expenses.

    What you typically will be responsible for:
    • Acting as the program manager in the absence of the program manager
    • Supervising staff and carrying a caseload
    • Coordinating training for Victim Witness staff
    • Developing crisis response protocols
    • Completing outreach and presentations with regard to mass victimization responses
    • Supporting crime victims in emotionally charged situations
    • Collaborating with outside agencies and partners and develop MOUs
    • Interviewing and advising victims about criminal cases and attend court, which may require driving to other locations throughout the County

    The eligible list established from this recruitment may remain in effect for six (6) months.

    Minimum Qualifications

    License Required: Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator's license. Out of State motor vehicle operator's license will be accepted during the application process.

    Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Major course work in social science, behavioral science, criminal justice or another closely related field is highly desirable.

    Experience: Three (3) years of full-time or its equivalent experience providing victim services in a District Attorney's office or victim services agency.

    Substitution for Education: Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university, including 12 semester units or 18 quarter units in social sciences, behavioral sciences, criminal justice, psychology or closely related fields AND two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be substituted for the required bachelor’s degree.

    Continuing Education: Completion of the CDAA Basic Level Advocate course and completion of the Advanced Level Advocate course or its equivalent within 1 year of hiring date for the position.

    Selection Process

    Application Filing and Evaluation: Applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process . Final Selection Interviews: These will be scheduled by the department once the eligible list is established.

    CONVICTION HISTORY

    DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

    All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
