    About the Opportunity

    THE POSITION The Storekeeper I orders, receives, stores, and issues supplies and records, and maintains data on the receipt and issuance of supplies. This classification spends the majority of their time processing storeroom paperwork and may supervise a small group in receiving and distributing stock. This position is subject to overtime, standby, and callback assignments. Performs related duties as assigned. Part-time extra-help is a provisional classification where permanent status may not be obtained. This position is subject to overtime, standby, shift, and callback assignments and will perform related duties as assigned. This position is non-benefited except for participation in a 401a program with Nationwide.     Typical Tasks

    • Greet and assist Quartermaster customers upon arrival;
    • Accept packages and ensure proper notification is promptly sent to recipient ;
    • Keep QuarterMaster Den clean, free of clutter, boxes, garbage, etc;
    • When equipment is returned, prompt disposal or re-stocking of equipment/ gear, Supervise the receiving, checking, storing, and shipping of items such as: office and janitorial supplies, hardware, dry goods, foodstuffs and/ or equipment parts: Monitor/ update Vehicle Inspection SharePoint and ensure vehicles are re-stocked as necessary;
    • Keep inventory Records and maintain sufficient supplies on hand to fill anticipated needs;
    • Take proper care of stock and supplies on hand and maintain storeroom equipment; Recommend repair, replacement, or purchase of new equipment;
    • Maintain inventory control records indicating quantity on hand, maximum and minimum stock levels, and usage dates;
    • Instruct personnel on proper way to store and issue supplies;
    • Organize, research, and analyze usage rates of materials and supplies which are provided to departments;
    • Consult with departmental representatives in relation to the correct handling of their supplies; AND
    • Other similar duties as assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education/Experience)

    Skills/Abilities
    • Keep accurate up to date inventories by maintaining records of incoming and outgoing supplies;
    • Issue and store supplies properly;
    • Supervise the work activities of other employees in the inventory, record-keeping and other functions of the storeroom;
    • Provide excellent customer service;
    • Operate motorized equipment such as a fork lift to move large, heavy equipment;
    • Read and write English sufficiently to fill out labels and read requisitions;
    • Requisition materials to maintain an accurate level of stock; and
    • Organize and utilize storeroom space to the optimum.

    Knowledge
    • Basic storekeeping principles and methods such as inventory control, shipping and receiving, and requisitioning supplies; and
    • Maintaining records of incoming and outgoing supplies.


    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
    • Graduation from high school or passage of the high school level; OR
    • General Education Development (GED).


    This is a Veterans' Preference Program eligible job classification.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

    • Must be current contract employee at Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office; OR
    • Must be a previous Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office employee.

    EXAMINATION PROCESS
    Most County recruitments consists of the steps detailed below and are governed by Merit Principles. The examination process ensures that all applicants are given the same opportunity to gain employment within Stanislaus County.

    Application Review and Screening. Applications are carefully screened based on information provided. Those who submit incomplete applications that lack relevant qualifications or do not submit all required documents will not be invited to move on.
    Written Examination. Applicants will be invited to participate in a written exam that tests knowledge for the position.
    Oral Examination. Applicants are invited to a panel interview in which they will be evaluated by County subject matter experts.
    Eligible Lists. Candidates who pass the examination will be placed on an eligible list for that classification. Eligible lists are effective for six months, but may be extended up to eighteen months.
