    Overview

The District Attorney’s Office for the 8th Judicial District is seeking a dedicated Deputy District Attorney to lead the prosecution of cases involving motor vehicle theft and other major cases, including violent and organized crime, that involve stolen vehicles. These specialized positions will focus exclusively on auto theft related crimes, working closely with law enforcement agencies, victims, and other prosecutors. The ideal candidate will possess a strong knowledge of criminal law, particularly in the area of property crimes, and have a passion for public safety. These employees will work for the District Attorney Office in the 8th Judicial District, but will also work with the District Attorneys in the 13th District (Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedwick, Washington, Yuma, and Kit Carson counties), 14th District (Grand, Moffat, and Route counties), and 19th District (Weld County). These are grant funded positions through a partnership with the Colorado District Attorney’s Council. It is anticipated the employees in these positions will be traveling to the various districts to prosecute their auto theft cases from initial investigation through trial and sentencing. These staff will work closely with the various law enforcement agencies, task forces, and other investigative units to gather evidence, build cases, and support ongoing investigations. In addition, part of the grant funding is tied to these employees providing training to law enforcement and prosecutors on legal standards related to auto theft, and stay updated on current laws and court rulings affecting auto theft prosecution.

The District Attorney's primary office is in Fort Collins with our second office in Loveland. In our district we have Cache La Poudre and Big Thompson rivers, Horsetooth Reservoir and the Rocky Mountain National Park. Staff are encouraged to take 2 long lunches a week to exercise and enjoy our community which could be running on one of our many local trails, biking (Fort Collins is a Platinum- rated bicycle friendly community with miles of dedicated bike lanes), or enjoying a yoga class in Old Town. Fort Collins is home to more than 20 craft breweries, Colorado State University, and family friendly community events. Our staff have recently won awards for innovations to improve efficiencies and forward-thinking projects. In addition to great benefits (medical, dental, vision) Larimer County provides a wellness clinic to staff for preventative health screening and coaching, primary care services, and physical therapy. Staff can use clinic leave for these services as well as for massage or acupuncture. In addition to paid holidays, sick and vacation leave, after a probationary period staff may also have work from home options. We value the wellbeing of our staff and have a resiliency program with 13 clinicians who are readily available to all employees (appointments available as soon as the next day) plus we have trained peer support specialists in our office for anyone who needs to decompress. If you could see yourself fitting into our office and community we hope you apply.

Attorneys in this position can expect a regular Mon-Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. schedule with some periodic evening and weekend work when required.
This is a grant funded position through June 2025. The grant may be extended past that time.

Please include a resume and a cover letter addressed to Brian Hardouin, Chief Deputy District Attorney.
