POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION Fleet Technician I: This is a skilled journeyman Fleet Technician position responsible for the maintenance and repair of automotive equipment. Work involves inspecting, servicing and repairing cars, trucks, construction equipment, emergency and other automotive related equipment. Work is performed under the general direction of the Crewleader, Fleet Supervisor or Fleet Superintendent. Work is assigned orally or through work orders. This position will be required to work overtime and to be on call during storm or emergency situations. This is a safety-sensitive position.
Fleet Technician II and Fleet Technician III : The Fleet Technician II and Fleet Technician III are skilled journeyman level positions responsible for mechanical work in the inspection, maintenance and repair of automotive, heavy-duty trucks and off-road equipment. Work involves servicing, using advanced diagnostic abilities, and repairing cars, trucks, construction equipment, police and fire vehicles and other automotive related equipment. Generally, work is more technical and difficult than that of Fleet Technician I and requires considerable independence in tasks and accomplishments. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Crewleader, Fleet Supervisor or Fleet Superintendent and may be assigned orally or through work orders. This position is required to work overtime and to be on call during storms or emergency situations. This is a safety-sensitive position.
Emergency Vehicle Technician I/II/II: The Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) I/II/III is a skilled journeyman level position responsible for mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of automotive, heavy-duty trucks, and off-road equipment and repair of police, fire and emergency response vehicles. The incumbent is responsible for working with outside service providers on fire pumpers, ladders and specialized equipment and for providing recommendations on specifications for purchasing new equipment. This position is required to work overtime and be on call during storms or emergencies. This is a safety sensitive position. Progression from EVT I to EVT II to EVT III is based on required certifications.
The full salary range for this position is stated above. Salary ranges for 2025: Fleet Technician I: $64,084.80 to $81,993.60 annually; Fleet Technician II: $68,868.80 to $88,129.60 annually; Fleet Technician III: $74,048 to $94,785.60 annually; Emergency Vehicle Technician I: $79,580.80 to $101,899.20 annually; Emergency Vehicle Technician II: $85,550.40 to $109,491.20 annually; and Emergency Vehicle Technician III: $91,977.60 to $117,748.80 annually. The starting range of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate. The City of Westminster has a Multilingual Stipend Program to encourage and reward benefited employees who are conversationally fluent in languages other than English. Benefited employees have the opportunity to test their language proficiency skills and qualify for a bi-weekly stipend that will vary based on the employee’s level of proficiency and usage.

Physical Requirements Work is physical in nature and requires sufficient physical stamina and strength for:
- Occasional sitting to perform office tasks and test drive vehicles; Constant standing to perform various repair and vehicle maintenance; Frequent walking through single level repair shop to pick up equipment and supplies
- Frequent squatting to inspect vehicles; Occasional bending at the waist to perform routine maintenance and major repair; Occasional kneeling, climbing, balancing, reaching below shoulder and twisting; Constant reaching overhead to perform tasks under vehicle
- Constant light, firm grasp, fine manipulation and handling for daily office duties, minor and major repair
- Constant step up/down and actuate mechanism to safely enter/exit and operate vehicles
- Constant near/far acuity and hearing to perform vehicle inspections, identify mechanical problems and communicate with employees and citizens
- Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds to move equipment and supplies to work area; Occasional pushing/pulling of up to 60 pounds of material on a cart or dolly
WORKING CONDITIONS Work is constantly performed indoor and occasionally outdoor with constant exposure to extreme weather. This work is performed year round in the repair shop and in the field under inclement and severe weather and working conditions. Working conditions include close proximity to moving vehicles, mechanical parts, and to heavy equipment. Exposure to exhaust and other fumes, odors, dust, noise, and vibrations does exist. Must be able to drive or learn to drive a wide-range of vehicles and equipment with automatic and manual transmissions.
Required Materials and Equipment Hand tools and power tools, electric and gas welders, and gas-cutting torch. Test equipment such as voltmeters, emissions test equipment, pressure testers, engine analyzers, and front-end alignment machine. Personal computer based fleet management information software, telephones and photocopy machines.

The City of Westminster does not participate in the Social Security system. In lieu of Social Security contributions, the city contributes to a 401(a) defined contribution plan on your behalf.
401(a) Contribution Rates:Employee Mandatory Contribution: 11.5% of your base pay. Contributions are pre-tax and fully vested.
