    JOB SUMMARY
    The Engineering Technician is responsible for the preparation, evaluation, and coordination of construction plans and specifications for planning, design, and construction of utilities and facilities.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Works with project team to gather as-built documents, block maps, televising records, asset condition records including main break history and maintenance work orders, engineering and planning documents, and other SAWS data and information needed by engineering design teams.
    • Requests, analyzes, and interprets maps to indicate existing and proposed utilities on construction plans to avoid design conflicts and maintain SAWS and applicable governmental requirements and standards.
    • Requests, analyzes, and converts basic digital information such as digital surveys for construction design and consultant’s digital designs to meet SAWS’ computer standard settings.
    • Under the supervision of a licensed PE, designs and/or evaluates construction plans of wastewater, water, reuse, chilled water, and facility projects.
    • Reviews submittals from engineering consultants to ensure compliance with SAWS standards and TCEQ rules and regulations.
    • Prepares and/or evaluates project record drawings including performing field verification and coordinating with consultants, Construction Management Inspectors, Project Engineers, and Geographic Information System (GIS) staff as needed to ensure final approval of record drawings for SAWS projects.
    • Prepares engineering sketches, exhibits, plans and maps for utility and facility projects.
    • Obtains necessary permits itemizes construction documentation for construction plans of wastewater, water, reuse, chilled water, and facility projects.
    • Coordinates projects with various internal/external, office and field personnel.
    • Performs basic engineering calculations.
    • Documents and monitors project conditions using a Digital/Video Camera, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), and/or other applicable tools.
    • Provides on-the-job training and assistance to other staff.
    • Performs on-site field inspections.
    • Demonstrates a continuous effort to improve skill levels.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


    DECISION MAKING
    • The Engineering Technician works under general supervision.


    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • One year experience using Bluebeam Software, Auto CADD, or MicroStation 3D CAD Software.
    • Two years’ experience in water, wastewater, utility infrastructure, or construction review, and/or design.
    • Valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License.
    • Proficient in the use and application of computer assisted design drafting software, word processing, spreadsheet, email, and database software.
    • Ability to report to work on time, maintain a good attendance record, and work all designated work schedules.


    JOB DIMENSIONS
    • Contact with internal and external customers, and governmental agencies.
    • Communicates effectively, verbally and in writing.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
    May be required to climb a ladder. Works in an office environment with occasional field visits to project sites, where there is heavy traffic, ongoing construction, and rugged terrain.

    May be required to work other than regular schedule.
