    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    NOTE: INTERNAL POSTING. OPEN TO TPWD LAW ENFORCEMENT EMPLOYEES ONLY.

    Under the direct supervision of the Regional Major, this position performs wildlife, conservation, and natural resources enforcement work, and is responsible for managing, evaluating and assisting with administrative and operational activities related to conservation and other law enforcement work in an assigned Region. Develops and conducts staff training. Oversees purchasing activities for regional personnel. Conducts investigations concerning complaints from the public and special criminal investigations. Responsibilities include direct supervision of office staff and administration of office operations, analysis of programs and activities, and providing guidance and leadership to other personnel. Conducts emergency management and homeland security operations. Assists with the preparation and management of the annual regional budget. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.


    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree;

    Graduation from the Texas Game Warden Training Academy.

    Experience:

    Six years experience as a Texas Game Warden from the date of graduation from the Game Warden Training Academy.

    Licensure:

    Commissioned as a Texas Game Warden by The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department;

    Must possess a current license as a peace officer from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE);

    Must possess a valid class "C" Texas driver's license.

    NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon maintaining required licenses and certifications.

    ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS

    Education:

    One additional year of the required experience as a Texas Game Warden may substitute for 30 hours of the required education, with a maximum substitution of 120 hours.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    Knowledge of statutes, proclamations, regulations and policies related to the enforcement of all provisions of the Texas Penal Code and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Code, and all regulatory acts adopted under the authority of the Parks and Wildlife Code regarding fisheries resources, game animal resources, game bird resources, non-game resources, furbearing resources and provisions of the Texas Water Safety Act;

    Knowledge of the Texas Disaster Plan, including TPWD and regional responsibilities during a disaster, in order to effectively handle the responsibilities of being assigned to the District Emergency Operation Center during emergencies and disasters;

    Knowledge of Department policies and Division General Orders;

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication;

    Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook;

    Skill in identifying special I&E program and/or staff training needs, and developing and delivering presentations and/or training material and courses to meet identified needs;

    Skill in effectively communicating and dealing with other people to achieve work related goals and objectives;

    Skill in using judgment and sound decision-making skills;

    Skill in conducting special criminal investigations and investigations in to complaints from the public;

    Ability to apply agency, state and federal laws, statutes, regulations, proclamations, policies and procedures;

    Ability to research and organize information to assist in the preparation and monitoring of regional budgets;

    Ability to use agency and divisional purchasing procedures to facilitate regional purchasing and provide assistance to Captain Game Wardens and others as requested;

    Ability to develop, maintain and monitor correspondence, reports, records, documents and other information;

    Ability to use the LECS system to provide assistance to regional staff and the BOTS system to help staff with problems arising out of boat/motor registration and titling;

    Ability to plan and organize workloads and priorities;

    Ability to plan, organize and coordinate meetings, including agendas and logistical support;

    Ability to function as the regional liaison in the District Emergency Operation Center during a disaster;

    Ability to function as the Regional Armorer and Safety Officer;

    Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program;

    Ability to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Required to work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday:

    Required to work overtime as necessary;

    Required to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

    Required to travel 15% with possible overnight stays;

    Must live within 50 air miles of Tyler Reginal Office (11942A FM 848, Suite 100, Tyler, TX 75707)

    Required to operate a State vehicle;
