Through academic affiliations with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the University of Southern California (USC), and the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Sciences (CDU), DHS hospitals are training sites for physicians completing their Graduate Medical Education in nearly every medical specialty and subspecialty. In addition, to its direct clinical services, DHS also runs the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agency and the County's 911 emergency response system, as well as Housing for Health and the Office of Diversion and Re-entry, each with a critical role in connecting vulnerable populations, including those released from correctional and institutional settings, to supportive housing.

DEFINITION: Performs responsible clerical work in receiving, disbursing, or accounting for cash, valuables, or negotiable instruments.
Essential Job FunctionsReceives payments and fees or valuables at a cashier's window or by mail, verifying amounts tendered, verifying currency is not counterfeit, checks are acceptable pursuant to the County Fiscal Manual, making change and issuing receipts.
Prepares deposit slips, transmittal and withdrawal requisitions, and other cashier report forms, statements, and schedules.
Maintains cash ledgers and journals, takes trial balances, and prepares financial statements.
Issues and accounts for receipt books or cash tag receipts.
Gives information regarding payments, licenses, fees, etc., in person and over the phone.
Prepares, checks, and approves rebates, refunds, and withdrawals.
Directs payments to payees and supervises the posting of such payments to individual case records.
Provides lead direction to and participates in miscellaneous clerical work, including the maintenance of files on bad checks and short payments.
Operates office machines and equipment and types as necessary in the preparation of forms.
Maintains and may have responsibility for a revolving fund.
Provides lead direction to other employees as needed.
Requirements REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY: One (1) year of office clerical experience, six (6) months of which must have been in handling cash receipts or disbursements and keeping cash records.
PHYSICAL CLASS II - LIGHT: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Additional credit will be given to applicants that possess the following desirable qualifications: Any additional experience in excess of the qualifying option for office clerical experience which includes the handling of cash receipts or disbursements and keeping cash records.
Additional Information EXAMINATION CONTENT: This examination will consist of an evaluation of experience based upon application information and desirable qualifications weighted 100%.
Applicants must score 70% or higher on this assessment to be placed on the list.
ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION: Applications will be processed as they are received and added to the list accordingly.Candidates who passed the assessment(s) are placed on a register in the order of their score group for a period of (12) months. We will use this list to fill vacancies as they occur.
NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWELVE (12) MONTHS. SPECIAL INFORMATION : AVAILABLE SHIFT: Appointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
