    CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY
    Under general direction, assists the Pool Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the Kenneth Serier Memorial Pool, ensuring a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment for all visitors. This position supervises lifeguards, cashiers, and pool maintenance staff, including but not limited to, developing schedules, maintaining order and ensuring safety of facility users; and performing other duties as assigned. In preparation for the pool season, there will be some pre- and post season work required, but there is no set schedule or minimum number of hours required and these tasks may be performed remotely. During the pool season (mid-June to mid-August) this position will be approximately 40 hours per week, and will include weekday, weekend and evening hours.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    The incumbent will assist the Pool Manager with the following duties:
    Oversee the daily operations of the pool, ensuring the facility is running smoothly.
    Monitor water quality and perform routine water tests to ensure proper chemical balance.
    Assist with maintaining pool cleanliness and performing light maintenance tasks when needed.
    Help ensure all equipment is in good working condition and arrange for repairs as needed.
    Oversee lifeguard functions and swim lesson instructions.
    Supervise lifeguards, swim instructors, and other pool staff, ensuring they adhere to safety guidelines and provide excellent service.
    Assign and schedule staff for swim lessons, public swim, swim meets, pool rentals, etc.
    Assist with handling customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints, ensuring a positive experience for all pool visitors.
    Ensure that all safety protocols and pool rules are being followed by staff and patrons.
    Execute emergency action plan and respond promptly to emergencies, provide first-aid, and complete incident reports when necessary.
    Oversee the collection of fees and prepare the daily records of receipts and deposits.
    Assist the Pool Manager in tracking and maintaining accurate records of pool operations, including staff certifications, incident reports, maintenance logs, and water quality records.
    Provide on-the-job training and guidance for staff, including lifeguard skills, customer service and assist with the planning and implementation of in-service trainings throughout the season.
    Assist with preseason and postseason preparation and cleanup, and management of inventory for pool supplies and equipment.
    Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned by supervisor.


    Employment Standards

    Knowledge of:
    • Pool operations
    • Cash management operations and record keeping
    • Principles, practices, and applications of life saving and first aid techniques
    • Rules and regulations regarding pool use
    • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy

    Ability to:
    • Perform a broad range of supervisory responsibilities
    • Work independently with established policies and procedures of the department
    • Communicate effectively with staff, supervisors, and the public
    • Enforce pool rules and regulations
    • Act quickly and calmly in emergency situations
    • Take charge and make decisions when the Pool Manager is unavailable.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
    • High School diploma or equivalent required; some college education in Recreation, Sports Management, or related field preferred.
    • At least 18 years of age
    • Prior experience in an aquatics facility, program or industry
    • Prior experience in customer service

    LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRMENTS
    Ability to obtain the following within 30 days of employment.
    • Valid Washington State Driver License
    • Valid First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification (offered in-house)
    • Valid Lifeguard (LGT) Certification (offered in-house)
    PREFERED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
    • Valid Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) Certification
    • Valid Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification


    Supplemental Requirements

    To perform the essential functions of the job, an Aquatics employee must be able to perform the following:

    Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, climbing, crawling, walking, pulling, lifting, fine motor dexterity, grasping and seeing/observing; ability to walk and stand for long periods of time. Ability to work outdoors under adverse and varied weather conditions.

    Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

    This position is not subject to health or retirement benefits. But, this position is eligible for Washington State Paid Sick Leave to accrue 1 hour for every 40 hours worked.
