    JOB SUMMARY

    The Foreperson - Grounds Maintenance is responsible for scheduling, inspecting, and evaluating carpentry, plumbing, fencing, landscaping, irrigation, roofing, and related facility and grounds maintenance work for all SAWS facilities.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Oversees and instructs employees in proper work methods and safety procedures, advises, guides, coaches and evaluates employee’s performance.
    • Inspects, evaluates and schedules maintenance for SAWS facilities and general work orders for in-house and customer properties to ensure completion of work is done in an efficient, safe and timely manner.
    • Initiates, plans, recommends and schedules ordering of materials and contractual services for maintenance of SAWS facilities.
    • Evaluates contractor’s performance and prepares written reports and forms.
    • Operates and maintains various types of lawn and shop equipment, power and hand tools and inventories equipment to ensure safe working conditions.
    • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships and provides excellent customer service.
    • Monitors daily custodial, building maintenance and grounds maintenance activities.
    • Functions as point person in absence of the Superintendent to delegate workload, oversee personnel and coordinate department activities.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


    DECISION MAKING
    • This position works under general supervision.
    • This position provides guidance over daily work of Facility Maintenance employees to include both building and grounds maintenance staff as well as outside contractor performance.


    MINIMUMREQUIREMENTS
    • High School Diploma or GED.
    • Four years’ experience in performing facilities and/or grounds maintenance duties such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, cabinetry, groundskeeping, tree maintenance, and irrigation system maintenance including two years’ experience scheduling, assigning and monitoring work, and providing technical training to employees in facilities maintenance.
    • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
    • Ability to report to work on time, maintain a good attendance record, and work all designated work schedules.


    JOBDIMENSIONS
    • Ability to establish and maintain contact with internal and external customers, contractors, vendors, governmental agencies, and the general public.
    • Ability to use facility and grounds maintenance equipment, machinery, and tools.
    • Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, database, and computerized maintenance management system software.


    PHYSICALDEMANDSANDWORKINGCONDITIONS

    Physical requirements include lifting up to 50pounds occasionally. Subject to standing and walking for long periods of time and stooping, bending, squatting on an occasional basis to perform job scope. Working conditions may include but are not limited to an office, shop and field environment including exposure to dust, offensive fumes, excessive noise, electrical, chemical, and confined space hazards, and some exposure to inclement weather.

    May be required to work hours other than regular schedule such as on-call, nights and weekends.
