Job Summary/ Objective: Performs routine and non-routine custodial services to provide the proper building sanitation by following prescribed cleaning protocols and frequencies. Works under limited supervision performing routine cleaning tasks by using prescribed chemicals and machines.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Essential Functions: - Performs custodial services in and around designated county facilities, which include trash removal and disposal, sweeping, dust mopping, high and low dusting, wet mopping, vacuuming and spotting carpet, restroom sanitation, cleaning glass, mirrors and fixtures, restocking soap dispensers and paper supplies, sanitizing drinking fountains, cleaning walls, vents, moving furniture, and collecting recyclable materials.
- Responds to requests from staff which includes but are not limited to setting up for meetings, moving furniture, unloading and storing deliveries.
- Responds to accidents or potential safety hazards such as spills
- Performs floor maintenance, restoring resilient floor tile as required by mechanical stripping, sealing, finishing, spray buffing, scrubbing and recoating. Carpet cleaning and extraction.
- Performs maintenance to custodial equipment to ensure proper and safe operation.
Competency: Knowledge/ Skills/Abilities: - Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment;
- Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions;
- Ability to perform manual and semi-skilled work;
- Ability to get along well with others;
- Ability to read and to performance basic functions on a personal computer;
- Thoroughness, cleanliness.
Required Education and Experience : - Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of high school.
- Possession of a valid appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Preferred Qualifications/Certifications: - Some building cleaning experience is preferred.
Physical and Mental Requirements: - Cleaning and maintenance work done typically walking and standing;
- Some lifting and carrying objects weighing 12-50 pounds, some furniture moving, occasional operation of vehicles.
- Work environment exposes employee to potential minor injuries and frequently adverse weather.
- Occasional exposure to potentially hazardous substances.
- Frequent and regular contacts with internal staff and the outside public for the purpose of providing custodial services, requiring a service-oriented attitude and tact.
Remote Work: This position is not eligible for remote work. All County staff must maintain residence within the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Salary Range: The hiring range for this position $18.36 - $20.29 per hour, which is approximately $38,187 - $42,207 per year. Starting offer is based on applicable education beyond minimum requirements and internal equity. The position also provides excellent benefits including 12 paid holidays, paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance options with employer contribution, employer-paid life insurance, VRS retirement, and continuing education/training opportunities.
